This Mother’s Day, my art friend Sandra and I are setting up a little art market inside my studio for a few hours. I’ll have my new Hamilton Gardens Floating Dream puzzle, some Van Gogh pillowcases, and a few of my watercolours, both original paintings and reproductions.

Come by, have a look, and maybe find a special gift. Hope to see you there!

When a painting is collected, it is not only a recognition of the work, but also a way of preserving the beautiful time spent creating it.

I’m so happy it has found a new home.

Thank you to the gallery for the support. I hope more beautiful works will also find their new homes.

Hamilton Gardens is a very special place for my family and me. Since we moved to New Zealand 14 years ago, we have loved it deeply. It feels like a magical place where different cultures come together and somehow live so beautifully here in Hamilton.

I often took my three children there to play. For them, it was a place to run around and happily get lost. For me, it was not only a place to chase after my children, but also an idea bank, somewhere I could withdraw inspiration whenever I needed it.

Floating Dream became the cover image not only for this exhibition catalogue, but also for a children’s book I am currently working on. The other two watercolours are also studies based on scenes from the book. I am still writing the story, so it is not finished yet, but I hope to complete and publish it by the end of this year or next year. At this rate, if the gardens keep changing, I may have to make it a series.

The Art of Hamilton Gardens opened on 17 April 2026 and runs until 5 June, so there is still plenty of time to visit. I have three pieces in the exhibition.

A sincere thank you to Dorcy, Clive, and the staff at for giving artists such a meaningful platform to support children and their families in the Waikato who are facing incredibly difficult circumstances. It gives our artworks a new purpose and deeper meaning.

A Little Studio Update ❤️

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share a small update with you.

As you probably know, everything around us has been getting more expensive — art materials, rent, power, all of it. Running the studio has become more challenging than before.

To keep the studio healthy and sustainable (and to keep giving the kids the quality guidance and materials they deserve), there will be a small tuition adjustment starting next term.

I’ve also created a new One-Year Study Fee option for families who plan to stay long-term. It’s designed to give a bit more stability and value. Details are below.

Thank you so much for being part of this little creative community. I truly appreciate your trust and support. This studio means a lot to me, and I’m doing my best to make it grow in a healthy way for everyone.

If you have any questions at all, just message me. I’m always happy to chat.

With gratitude,
Hong

1. Fee Stability
The studio fee will remain at the agreed rate for the full one-year period and will not be affected by any price changes during this time.

2. Withdrawal & Refund
If you wish to withdraw from the programme, 2 weeks’ written notice is required.
Any refund will be calculated based on the current studio rate at the time of withdrawal, and the remaining unused balance will be refunded accordingly.

3. Transfer of Fees
The one-year study fee is transferable to another student.
The studio must be informed in advance, and the new student must meet the age and skill requirements of the class.
Transferred fees will continue from the current course progress and will not be recalculated.

4. Absences & Missed Classes
For absences due to personal reasons, at least one week’s notice by phone is required.
Make-up classes or refunds may be offered at the studio’s discretion, depending on the situation, but are not guaranteed.
If a class is cancelled by the studio, the session will be rescheduled or a make-up class will be arranged.

5. Pausing Lessons
The one-year study fee may be paused upon request.
If you wish to pause lessons, please discuss this with the studio in advance and choose one of the following options:
• Freeze the remaining balance for future use; or
• Receive a refund of the remaining balance, calculated based on the current studio rate at the time the pause is requested.
During the pause period, the original class time slot cannot be guaranteed.

6. Public Holidays & Schedule Changes
Classes on public holidays will be advised by the studio in advance.
Class schedules may be adjusted due to holidays or special circumstances.

7. Student Behaviour & Materials Fee
Students are expected to treat teachers, other students, and the studio environment with respect.
The studio charges a basic art materials fee, which covers standard materials used in regular classes.
Special materials or exhibition-related fees, if required, will be advised separately and in advance.
Intentional damage to studio equipment or materials may require compensation.

8. Force Majeure
In the event of force majeure (such as extreme weather or unforeseen circumstances),
the studio reserves the right to reschedule classes, provide make-up sessions, or adjust arrangements as necessary.

9. Final Interpretation

Dear friends, thank you so much for all your support over the past year!

I’m really grateful “The Golden Passage ”has been sold from the latest gallery exhibition last week.

When the gallery invited me to join the “Design is Everything” exhibition about architecture, I knew I had to paint something from my own culture.

Traditional Chinese architecture is just too beautiful — from the overall design down to every single mortise-and-tenon joint, it carries our history, our heritage, and so much wisdom.

I spent ages making sure every structure was correct (or at least close enough!). I actually pulled two all-nighters just doing the drafts and line work for this piece.

I’m so glad it has gone to someone who loves it. And a big thank-you to for your support, always.
