Kia ora e te whanau...

I have been on a journey the last few months making this Wahaika for Tyreese on his 18th Birthday.

I made his younger brother one a few years ago for his 5th birthday and today was Tyreeses turn.

The Manaia cut outs represent his brother and 3 sisters and the Manaia on the end represent his Mum and Dad.

The designs are burnt in using a pyrography pen and are based on Mums Tā Moko.

Happy 18th Birthday Tyreese?

Anyway, got myself a couple of old Puriri posts toeards the wnd of last year and have come up with a few projects for them...

Because Ive never used this Rakau before I took a couple of off cutsbl to help me to get a feel for this rakau, and boy, can I tell you, it is HARD! But check out how rich and beautiful the grain comes out with a but of oil...

So far Ive made a Pūtōrino and a couple of Koauau and am happy with how they came out...

The wife and I just cut and prepped some of it for a Pukaea which I hope to start in the next week or so... Also been working on a Taiaha from Tawa for a 50th later in the year...

Kia ora e te whaanau, here are a few Taonga Pūoro I just made from Pūriri.
