HCC's Creative Partnership Fund has landed! There's an extra $50k in there too.

The fund matching element is going to be the biggest obstacle - as is meeting the criteria (community orgs only). But we're excited to see what comes of this!

Kia ora folks - an update from Kat @ HQ...

> The Council just released their Long Term Plan. They DID NOT LISTEN to the various creative community members who expressed their concerns during submission time - they went ahead and adopted the fund-matching scheme ($100,000 per year over three years).

*Hamilton is STILL the only major city in Aotearoa that DOES NOT HAVE AN ARTS STRATEGY alongside their other strategies.*

> I've been spending a lot of time following, supporting and looking into some of the qualms around the Innovating Streets trial on Ward & Rostrevor Streets.
Only one week left! So please make the most of using the current layouts and attending the remaining events (ie. Music in the Park on Sat 3 July). Feedback is open until 11 July.

> Lastly, for those of you who don't know, I am officially in the running for Council's upcoming by-election for the East-Ward seat. So things will be quiet over here for from me for the next wee while. You can follow me - please tell your mates on the east side! I'll be back on board in late August ✌️

Kat made this video to highlight the lack of due diligence that Hamilton's civic leaders have been displaying around the Innovating Streets project. Both Mayor Paula Southgate and Deputy Mayor Geoff Taylor, have publicly expressed their negative thoughts (around business and parking) and are potentially interfering with the outcome of this trial - which is 90% government funded - and is a nationwide initiative designed by Waka Kotahi NZTA to make city streets safer and enhance community wellbeing.
Our local leaders of the creative arts community have been hit the hardest throughout this trial..... The trial is still going - and has NOT been a fair trial.

Back in April, a team of local creatives were tasked to help ACTIVATE unsafe city spaces on behalf of Hamilton City Council and Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Two-ish months later, the trial ROAD SAFETY scheme - 90% funded by the NZ Govt - is drawing to a close.

These dangerous, vehicle dominated, uninspiring public roads have nearly INSTANTANEOUSLY transformed into unique, accessible spaces designed for pedestrians, wheelchairs (AKA micro-mobility users), e-scooter users and local cyclists to enjoy...
..A LONG OVERDUE civic upgrade to help improve the wellbeing of our city's most frequent "foot-fall" users - and help connect PEOPLE to our INNER CITY spaces 🧡

How lucky are we to be living in Kirikiriroa right now, to be experiencing this small opportunity to enhance road safety AS WELL AS uplifting the urban city + community environment?

Pretty lucky, we reckon.

And there's still more events to come!

Now is the time to reflect on this funded trial, and get your shoes on and do a walk about - SOAK IT IN - and think about feeding back our experiences to the council.....To ensure they can get more funding from Waka Kotahi - for more transport and community focused projects like this, for the future rangatahi of Kirikiriroa.
