Pauly B Art

Pauly B Art I'm a mural painter & street artist adding inspiration and beauty to people's lives. My murals are love letters to cities and homes and the people within them.

I paint murals because the human spirit matters, how we feel matters, and our environments matter; I help people create sublime spaces so they can live inspired lives. I’m a highly experienced mural specialist who has been sharing beauty and meaning through art since 1998. I relish the power my murals have to build pride in our cities, boost the desirability of environments, tell stories and engag

e customers. My style is unapologetically unique: a special combination of peaceful and vibrant, conceptual and ethereal. I get a kick out of taking ideas or themes and translating them into visual language. I guide clients through an enjoyable and collaborative process, and am told I’m fantastic to work with. I’ve been commissioned by major brands, small businesses, councils, and individuals on a wide variety of interior and exterior murals throughout Aotearoa New Zealand. I bring a hefty amount of experience and professionalism to each job. My background is in graphic design, illustration, arts education, creative community development, and directing major arts events, including Hamilton’s Boon Street Art Festival. My calm and mindful demeanour has been cultivated by a two-decade long meditation practice. I’m always up for an interesting conversation, a fantastic adventure, or an unusual challenge. Contact me today to talk about how we can make something amazing together. Wherever your wall, whatever your brief, I’ll ask the right questions, listen to your needs, and create something truly magical.

This mural began with a visit to Paeroa, where conversations with locals shaped the concept. While my partner chatted with residents about what the town means to them, I captured their stories through drawings. Back in the studio, I identified the strongest common themes to create a cohesive artwork.

Two ideas stood out clearly: the first being the Ohinemuri River - which is significant for local Māori as well as being a historically vital trade route and still beloved today for riverside walks. Secondly, Paeroa’s thriving antique shops, which add to the town’s distinctive character. Inside the shop whose wall I painted, I discovered a pair of Crown Lynn swans. As an iconic piece of New Zealand design history, and having grown up near the original factory, including them felt natural and personal.

The final design brings these threads together: two Crown Lynn swans on the river, celebrating local history, shared cultural memory, and the town’s natural beauty.

Painting in small towns can be a real treat. Over the six days I was there, locals brought coffee and snacks, visitors stopped to chat, and two schoolboys visited daily, each time painting a small section of the wall, stoked to know they’ll be able to claim “I painted that bit!”

Thanks to Hauraki District Council for funding the project, Katie at council for being such a champ, Total Access for the access support, The Refinery for accommodation, and the good people of Paeroa for the warm welcome.

In 2016 I was just getting started painting murals. This was an exciting and steep learning curve. I rented a studio space, and bought some plywood to practice on. I then painted a mural in Raglan, and one in Hamilton. Looking back, they’re rough by 2026 standards, but I like the raw energy in them.
I also played my first Dr Mesmer’s gig with and Kent MacPherson. My creative challenge was to perform projections entirely with live sampling and no pre-made video clips. This launched a decade of gigs which took me all over Aotearoa NZ as well as a tour to China in 2019.
Great memories!

This was such a fun collab!
