After taking Rachel Roberts Astro Workshop in May 2026, I set out a goal, to get a milkyway panorama EVERY month for 12 months. Currently, I am 6 months down. There is about 1.5 weeks per month of night sky with no or little moon.

Its been quite difficult to achieve this so far, I'm only half way through, and I've battled the West Coast spring and even an un-normally wet winter. Along with the late nights out, with getting up at 6am the next morning to go to work, this has been challenging and exhausting. Some of these shots have up-to 18 hours put into them. I know these aren't the best astro works or anything like that, but I'm damn proud of the progress. Here is my astro work since May 2026. Thank you Rachel for giving me the knowledge on how to get the results that I want. I'm not there yet, but I am getting there.

Ten years ago Nicole was told she had a brain tumour. She named it Terry.

This year, in February, on her birthday, she was told she was in remission. She's now training for a marathon. First though, she wants to have a good night out.

Why Not Quiz? is on Wednesday 7 October, 6pm, at Monteith's in Greymouth. $10 per person, teams of 4 to 6, cash on the night.

$250 of prizes for the winning table. Raffles all evening including a getaway package to Gore Bay. There's also a round based on "A Bit of Vengeance", the documentary about Nicole's ten years with Terry, so watch it before you come and you'll have a head start on everyone else.

One from a school night this week. Quite happy with how this turned out. An idea to come here a couple months ago, but the tides scared me. Unfortunately we had to contend with the moon this night, so I had to make do with what I could. Absolutely love this image.

Weather had me doubting I'd get an astro shoot in this month at all. Managed to squeeze this one in regardless. The airglow ended up doing most of the work, lighting up the west with gold and giving the Milky Way something to punch through. Not a bad result for a night I nearly wrote off.
