Singer-songwriter and elder statesman of the New Zealand music scene, Wayne Mason’s road to fame began when at sixteen he ran away from home to follow his dream of becoming a musician.

He has been writing, recording, and performing music ever since. From his school band that led to the formation of the 60s pop band The Fourmyula (and the No.1 song, Nature - yes, he is that guy); country rock stars Rockinghorse (Thru the Southern Moonlight); early 80s avant-garde rock band Two Armed Men (with Jonathan Crayford and Ross Burge) followed by country rock band The Warratahs - co-founded by Wayne and with his song Hands of My Heart becoming their first top ten hit.

Since leaving The Warratahs, he has toured in Europe, travelled miles and miles up side roads and down back roads of Aotearoa, collaborated in bands (including Too Many Chiefs and the Laura Collins Big Blues Band) playing in country halls and theatres, and continues to write, record, and perform his original material.

Wayne has a gift for evocative language that builds landscapes of the human experience - giving voice to emotions we can all relate to.

Fronted by the remarkable Bunny Reid, whose commanding vocals have drawn comparisons to Grace Slick, Aretha Franklin and Ann Wilson, Moonflower create music that’s warm, powerful and impossible to stand still through.

After turning heads and winning hearts on their last West Coast visit in 2024, Moonflower are heading back across the Alps for two nights of deep-pocket grooves that hit somewhere deep in the chest.

Joining them is Canterbury music stalwart Duncan 'Disorderly' Sole. Known for his work supporting emerging artists and fostering vibrant music communities, Sole brings heartfelt songwriting, road-worn storytelling and authentic musicianship to the stage.

'Some pieces of history are worth keeping alive!'
Hidden above the auditorium at The Lyric Theatre, Granity are two extraordinary survivors of the mechanical cinema age: Peerless Magnarc carbon-arc lamphouses paired with Westar 35mm projectors, installed new in 1958.

They projected films at The Lyric for more than five decades, right through to around 2012. Today, equipment of this type is exceptionally rare, and very few examples worldwide are still in operation.

The restoration is already well underway, driven by people contributing something increasingly difficult to find: specialist knowledge, practical skills, patience and a willingness to give their time.

Now comes the final chapter.

We’re raising funds to complete the restoration and have these magnificent machines running again.

This is your opportunity to support the preservation of a tangible piece of cinema history, right here in Granity, and to add one more remarkable achievement to an extraordinary community-led restoration story.
