A wee token of appreciation for a very special teacher aide who has helped care for my niece Penny during her time at kindergarten. πŸ’š

My sister Megan asked me to make this piece as a special thank you. Penny is autistic and non-verbal, so having people around her who take the time to understand her, support her and help her feel safe and included means more than words can really say.

Penny has just turned 5 and is now heading off on her next big adventure β€” school. This piece was made to represent just how important this teacher aide has been in Penny’s kindergarten journey.

A heartfelt thank you for all the patience, kindness, care and support you’ve given our wee Penny. You’ve been such an important piece of her world. πŸ§©πŸ’š

A manaia and fern, carved from beautiful Nelson pounamu with gorgeous blue-grey shades running through the stone.

This was honestly some of the hardest pounamu I’ve carved to date, so it certainly made me work for the finished result , but it was well worth it.

Finished with a pāua eye and fine fern detailing, this is a completely unique taonga made especially for its new owner.

A sweet little piece finished today, carved from beautiful pounamu with so much natural character running through the stone.

The porowhita represents the circle of life, connection and the continuous journey we walk, while the pΔ«wakawaka (fantail) is often seen as a messenger β€” a little reminder of those who have passed and the connections that remain with us. πŸͺΆ

I absolutely love how the colouring of this pounamu creates its own backdrop around the pΔ«wakawaka. Every piece of stone has its own story, and sometimes you just have to let it lead the way.

Some commissions carry a story that stays with you long after the carving is finished.
This horseshoe was created in memory of two incredible horses who meant the world to their owner. Rather than simply carving pounamu, we wanted to preserve a piece of them forever.
The bracelet has been hand-braided using the hair from both horses, creating something that can be worn every day. The pounamu horseshoe carries that same connection, with strands of their horse hair carefully inlaid into the carving itself. Their presence isn't just remembered, it's woven into the piece.
A horseshoe has long been a symbol of luck, protection, strength and the journey we share with those who carry us through life. Combined with pounamu, a stone treasured for its connection to strength, healing and guardianship, this became far more than jewellery. It became a lasting tribute.
It is an absolute privilege to be trusted with memorial pieces like this. Knowing that something so deeply personal can be transformed into a taonga that keeps memories close to the heart is one of the greatest honours of my work.
