"Lying in the grass looking at the sky"  We carry our childhood within us... This little artwork isn't about place, it's about memories. As a child in Scotland, the eldest of four siblings with only four years between us, I would often make a little nest on my own in the nearby hay field and lie gazing at the clouds and sky, finding my peace and quiet. Moody skies and grasses are a recurring theme in my work, now you know why🫶

I've begun working on a series of paintings "Catching the Light" which I've been invited to exhibit next year. This one was inspired from when I was out walking and paused to enjoy the simple pleasure of dappled sunlight filtering through the trees onto the shady forest road. Oil on canvas.

There have been quite a few new followers on my page lately – Welcome! and thanks for your interest.
It’s been suggested by my #1 cheerleader (you know who you are 😊) that I should re-introduce myself. So here I am, albeit reluctantly, as I’d much rather stay behind the canvas - I bet you can’t tell from that photo🤦‍♀️😁
I’m a Scottish born artist, mother, partner, grandmother, mother in law and friend to those I hold dear, living in Gore, in the south of New Zealand. I’ve drawn and painted since I was a child, which as you can see was a long time ago 😁 but like so many women artists, chose to put artistic expression aside for long periods when family, a balanced life and other responsibilities and commitments took precedence. But for the last few years I have so enjoyed having the time to really focus on painting, which I am loving! Sharing my work was more of a challenge for me as I'm not really an 'out there' kinda person, but getting back into exhibitions and showing my paintings on Instagram and Facebook has been rewarding, I'm glad that so many of you can relate to and appreciate what I try to convey through my work. I’m so encouraged (and humbled!) that many of you take the time to comment and to ‘like’ , share, and follow (always appreciated!) to attend exhibitions, and to buy it and want to live with it too – thank you to all of you💖🙏

I did this little painting "Watching the Breakers" from memories of invigorating and thought- clearing beach walks in wild weather - awed by the thundering sea, the crashing waves, and getting buffeted around by wind gusts. 😊 (Sold, grateful thanks to the purchasers)
