Tish Scott’s thought provoking exhibition in the small space at Tairāwhiti Museum is definitely worth a visit! Tish’s handling of paint is beautiful. The works hang in unusual frames clustered together in the space and tell a weird and wonderful story to the viewer.

Some of our committee met tonight and discussed what’s coming up in the year as part of our AGM planning. This year’s AGM is on the 22nd July and will be a great opportunity to get involved with our committee and put some important dates in your diary. Members should keep an eye on inboxes for more details coming soon.

If you haven’t had a chance to visit the Tairāwhiti Museum to see the Gisborne printmakers exhibition make sure you get along. GAS members have some fabulous work in the show. All of the work is for sale so make sure you tell your Art collecting friends!!

The importance of framing 🎨

Framing doesn’t just finish a piece of art — it protects it and helps it be seen at its best.
The right frame can influence how colour, scale and detail are experienced, especially in an exhibition setting where presentation really matters.
As you prepare for this year’s Gisborne Artists’ Society Annual Exhibition, it’s worth thinking about how framing can enhance your work and support the story you want to tell. Allow a good amount of time to get your work into the framers.
If your work sits well without a frame e.g a work on a stretched canvas or board - check the edges - are they clean and neat so as not to distract from the work itself?

The Annual GAS Exhibition is coming up and now’s a great time to mark the dates in your diary! Here are some key dates:

Submission Days - 21 and 22 August, exact times TBC. Drop off up to 3 pieces of artwork at Lysnar House.

Opening Night - 28 August at 5.30pm. Come along for the opening and bring your art-loving friends and family.

Exhibition Dates - 29 August to 15 November 2026.

You must be a current member of GAS AND a Friend of the Museum to take part in the Annual Exhibition.
