🎵 Check out this absolute beauty: a vintage British Columbia Viva-tonal Grafonola No. 109 portable gramophone, dating back to the mid-to-late 1920s!

🎼 This wonderful piece was generously donated by Ron Finch, continuing his incredible support after previously gifting
his entire camera collection to the museum.

🎙️ To test it out, Colin Sweetman is spinning a classic 1955 New Zealand pressing of "Hummingbird" by Les Paul and Mary Ford on the Capitol label. There is nothing quite like hearing the rich, warm sound of shellac on a spring-driven machine. Such a great piece of audio history!

Expertly crafted by our very own club member, Alister Lyon, who cleverly cut away sections so you can peer right inside the mechanics, from the timing chain and crankshaft to the inner gears. ⚙️

We love a productive museum work day! Our members are always busy behind the scenes keeping our vintage treasures looking their best.

A big shoutout to Alastair Sabiston for getting our beautifully restored Mobil sign installed on the front of the Tractor Building, it looks incredible! Swipe to see the before and after.

Meanwhile, Bob Bright and Ian Webb were busy under the hood working on the 1947 Ford 2N. 🧑‍🔧

⛽ A 1930s Mobil Pump with a Local Story!

⛽ Made in Sydney between 1935 and 1939, this dual-powered 'Gilbert & Barker (Gilbarco) clock-face pump' was installed on the late Gib Miller’s mixed-farming property in Orari in the 1960s. It worked reliably for 20-odd years before being replaced with a more modern pump in the 1980s.

⚡️ Built for rural reliability, it featured a clever dual-power design: if the electricity cut out, you simply inserted a hand lever to manually pump fuel. Gib’s son, Max Miller, recalls his grandfather using a tractor belt pulley on their Clandeboye farm to power a pump during outages and keep the milking shed running!

🚜 A huge thank you to the Miller family for donating this fantastic piece of local history, and to Alistair Lyon for his brilliant restoration work. Come check it out up close on your next visit!

Geraldine Vintage Car and Machinery Museum at the Geraldine Matariki Motor Muster 2026! 🚗💨

From stunning vintage classics like the Chevrolet to some unique retro favourites like the Reliant Robin, it was an incredible lineup.

🏍️ 1975 Yamaha TY175A: The original trailblazer.
🏍️ 1977 Yamaha TY175C: The ultra-agile "Clubman’s favourite."

⚙️ On loan from Bob Bright, who bought the TY175C brand new in '77 and competed in trials events for about four years. He originally picked up the '75 for parts, but ended up restoring both!

⚙️ Over the decades, these user-friendly bikes have helped countless local novices and kids learn to ride confidently, though they saw their share of mischief too...

⚙️ Hearing a bike roaring on the gravel driveway, Bob went out to find his 10-year-old son and some mates ripping speedway-style donuts, going round and round, tighter and tighter until they fell off, laughing hysterically. The kids didn't notice a rock had punched a hole in the oil tank, but luckily Bob spotted the leak just in time to save the machine.

⚙️ There’s always grease on the hands and passion in the shed on a Tuesday morning. Behind the scenes at the Museum, our volunteer team is busy keeping the vehicle collection in top shape.

👋 Gavin Harris and Tick Reid currently have the hood up on a classic blue Mk1 Ford Es**rt, working to get it running smoothly.

🛻 Parked right alongside them is a beautifully preserved 1948 Riley RMB. This post-war British classic features a distinct fabric-covered roof over a handcrafted timber-framed body, powered by a high-performance twin-cam "Big Four" engine.

It’s the dedication of volunteers like Gavin and Tick that keeps these historic machines alive and operating.
