A weathered cliff rises from a roiling base of sienna and umber, its mass set against a cool, distant sky. Layered colors suggest strata while dark fissures and vein-like lines map erosion and memory across the surface. When I look at it I follow the thin white ribbon that reads like a waterfall or light-slick channel, and I notice how rust-reds move into deep indigo and slate. A quick thank you! For the next 48 hours, use code THANKS26 for 20% off "Scorched earth", along with other available artwork in my gallery.

We've officially crossed the halfway point of the year, and I wanted to celebrate with a short surprise sale before August comes to a close.

Thank you for being here and supporting my work. I truly appreciate it.

Here is Mountain High, an unframed work on paper available through ASHE gallery. I aimed for a balance between cool restraint and sudden warmth, where powdery whites and blues suggest altitude and ochres and rust read like sunlit ledges. Dark, almost calligraphic veins cut through paler areas to add a restless energy, while softer, mistlike passages above bring a quieter openness. Small pools of saturated color, a ribbon of cobalt, a band of red and pockets of green, anchor the lower plane and hint at water or seasonal scrub. A ridge cuts into a stormy sky, mist pooling in the valleys and a narrow band of pale pink along the horizon. Deep indigos, slate blues and muted greens set a brooding mood, while a small warm flicker reads like a distant light against the vastness. I wanted to hold the contrast between steady rock and restless water and bring a bit of that South Island wind into the room. I wanted to share "Reflections", a view of a glacial basin and a dark, mirror-like alpine lake. Cool blues and slate grays sit beside earthy ochres and rusted siennas, with small touches of moss green and rose to warm the stones. The sight moves from a rocky foreground along curving shorelines up to a sweeping white mountain, so the lake reads as deep and a little restless. It feels brisk and contemplative to me, a high-altitude stillness shaped by wind and time. I've titled this piece Colours of the Earth. Layered ridgelines rise and fall in teal, indigo and muted ochre while pools of pale aqua thread like quiet lakes through shadowed valleys. Rust and rose punctuate the cooler palette and diagonal planes guide the eye from hollow foregrounds to mist-soft peaks. Textured ridges and scored marks suggest weathered surfaces, and slender vertical lines near the bottom read as bare trees or reeds, offering a sense of scale. The light is patient, allowing deeper tones to hold a little mystery so the whole feels grounded and quietly expansive. Undetected I slipped away brings rugged ridgelines and warm ochres into a room. Warm rusts sit against cool indigos so sunlit faces stand out beside deep shadowed gullies. A diagonal ridge guides the eye while smaller terraces read like layers of ancient geology, and the clear blue above sharpens the sense of altitude. I like how it balances a broad, quiet presence with close-up details that feel weathered and real. Light Bearer was inspired by the mountains and the journey of life that asks us to leave the comfortable low places behind, to find ourselves and our purpose. I aimed for a balance of shadow and light that reads rugged yet quietly alive, with a small green meadow and slim amber forms breaking the darker planes.
