NZ Dairy Event Welcome to New Zealand's Greatest Dairy Show
Sunday 24th January - Wednesday 27th January 2027 This is not an ordinary show - make no mistake about that!

On behalf of the New Zealand Dairy Eventโ€™s Management Committee in conjunction with Manawatu Show Promotions, I would like to challenge all breed enthusiasts to participate in this prestigious national dairy event. Considerable work has been carried out by the committee to ensure those attending will be well catered for and we believe you will end up having a memorable and enjoyable time. The magnificent Manfeild Agri-Centre facilities are second to none and I believe are the best in the Southern Hemisphere if not the world for exhibiting cattle. With the amazing facilities, it certainly attracts the very best cattle from all around New Zealand. We once again have a challenging programme for our Eleventh event. We have continued with the major focus being on the farming youth of our country, as we all know, they are our future. Like the 2018 event, and as requested by the Breed Societies, all the youth cattle entries are included into their respective Breed Sections as well as the All Breeds Section of the Dairy Event. All non-youth entries from the respective breed sections will also be included in the All Breeds section.

This year, a well-known Australian breeder/photographer will join the NZ DairyEventโ€™s media team that is led by Dianna Malcolm. Fleur Ferguson is based in Toolamba, Victoria. Fleur Ferguson has combined her lifelong passion for cattle with more than 35 years of professional photography experience.

Not only does she work with her husband, Andrew, and their son Tim, at Ferguson Farms, milking approximately 300 mixed stud dairy cows. She has her own photography business, COWS by Fleur Ferguson Photography. Fleur has also become an international award-winning photographer โ€“ specialising in families, babies, events, rural photography and lifeโ€™s special moments.

On the cow side of the business, the Ferguson family are passionate breeders and exhibitors, enjoying significant success in the show ring โ€“ including being named Premier Breeder and Premier Exhibitor of the Ayrshire show at International Dairy Week โ€“ for the past three years.

Fleur has photographed at International Dairy Week for more than 20 years, along with many Royal Shows throughout Australia, and a number of dairy and beef cattle shows, sales and on-farm assignments across Australia. Her work takes her throughout the country photographing some of the countryโ€™s leading dairy and beef cattle, as well as the breeders, exhibitors and the families behind them.

Fleur brings a unique perspective to livestock photography, combining her extensive photographic experience with her own knowledge as a dairy farmer, breeder, and exhibitor. Critically, she understands the importance of presenting showcasing livestock, while capturing their character, the atmosphere and the people who make the cattle industry so special.

Fleur says, โ€œIโ€™m delighted to be heading across the Tasman in January to photograph the New Zealand Dairy Event, and I look forward to capturing the outstanding cattle, people and atmosphere of New Zealandโ€™s dairy industry.โ€

In addition, Ella Pirie photography (who has just returned from the World Dairy Expo in the United States) will again be behind the cattle lines capturing out-of-the-box moments.

It's already been released that Wendy Harker and Mike Jenkins will be stepping into the ringside announcing role which has been held by Brian Robinson for many years. Selwyn Donald will also spend the week in his comfort zone behind the microphone checking in with exhibitors for impromptu interviews as they realise the dreams and create the 2027 NZ DairyEvent's milestones for the history books.

The NZ DairyEventโ€™s Jersey judge steps up to the plate with a number of runs on the board. Mark Davis, of Westcott Farm, comes from a family that milks 200 registered Jerseys and 25 Holsteins on their home farm at Tiverton, Devon, in the South West of England.

On October 7, the family took one of those Holsteins winning the top honours against 300-head at the UK Dairy Show with Rivermead Lambda Missy VG89. She was milking 53kg/day six weeks fresh. They also celebrated winning the interbreed heifer championship with their Jersey, Rivermead Victory Pixie.

Mark is equally well known as a dairy auctioneer, who was recently shortlisted for Auctioneer of the Year at the 2026 UK Martโ€™s The Heart awards.

Mark says he has been at livestock markets every week since he was three years of age. As he grew, he started helping his father in his dairy cattle trading business.

He joined livestock firm Kivells in 2009 as a dairy auctioneer and he has now been with the company 17 years.

Mark specialises in selling dairy cattle โ€“ conducting both market and on-farm sales โ€“ throughout the UK. In addition, he sells pedigree beef cattle, pedigree sheep and tups.

โ€œAuctioneering is more than just my profession,โ€ he says. โ€œItโ€™s a lifelong passion, and I take great pride in providing a professional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic service to both buyers and sellers.โ€

Mark has been breeding Jerseys for 25 years with his family. The Rivermead herd has enjoyed significant success in the show ring โ€“ notably winning the UK Jersey National Show in 2023 and 2024.

Mark has also judged many shows across the UK, in addition to Denmark and Jersey Island.

Markโ€™s wife, Clare, and three children Izzy, Jack and Ruby will be travelling to New Zealand to watch him judge on January 27 at Manfeild Park in Feilding.

The Combined Breeds judge for the 2027 NZ DairyEvent has a string of accolades in the Illawarra breed.

Greg English, from Malanda, in Far North Queensland owns the Eachamvale stud with his wife, Bronwyn. Together with their seven children they milk 280-300 predominately Illawarra cows on 154 hectares or 380 acres in the old language (in addition to some leased properties). The herd includes a handful of Holsteins and Jerseys in an operation that knows how to stand out โ€“ despite the unique challenges of farming in a sub-tropical highland climate.

Notably, Eachamvale bred and owned the Brisbane Royalโ€™s 2019 Supreme Champion Dairy Cow, Eachamvale Precious 7. At the time she was the first Illawarra to achieve it in 29 years, and she did it after the biggest commute โ€“ a 3500-kilometre round trip truck ride โ€“ from a tough part of the country to prepare show cows. The family showed six head that year โ€“ winning two of the three individual Supreme titles (both in-milk) โ€“ including Eachamvale's first Premier Breeder and Exhibitor for the breed. Greg says that Precious 7 recently re-calved, aged 12 years.

This June at the Malanda Show with approximately 80-head on the grounds, Eachamvale won every Supreme age title (including Supreme Intermediate and Senior Best Udder and the Supreme Pen of Three).

And, this August, the family once again won Supreme Intermediate Champion/Supreme Intermediate Best Udder at the 2026 Brisbane Royal Show with Eachamvale Kaye 27 (who was also Intermediate Champion in the Queensland Illawarra On-Farm).

It will be Gregโ€™s first trip to New Zealand when he steps out at Manfeild Park, Feilding between January 24 and 27, but (fun fact) his nephew, Simon Tognola, judged the Jerseys in 2024.

In Australia Greg has judged the Illawarras at the Toowoomba Royal in 2009, at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2018, the popular Gatton Show twice, IDW in 2020, and the Adelaide Royal Show in 2025.

And, while the family is respected for its modern Illawarra cattle, Eachamvale has extreme history and a love of exhibiting cattle as a family. It has shown at the Malanda Show every year (with the exception of Covid restrictions) since 1916, and at Cairns Show for 110 years.

Greg has served as the Federal Vice President of the Illawarra Cattle Society of Australia, Vice President of the Queensland branch, President of the Malanda Show Society, and he is a board member for the local AI Co-op.

Greg and Bronwynโ€™s children are also keen exhibitors and involved with the farm. They include Jerry and Catherine (who work full-time on the farm), Patrick, Rachel, Hannah, Mary and Frances.

FROM THE BEGINNING | A Team Effort ๐Ÿ„โค๏ธ

From a handful of people sitting on hay bales with a dream, to an event attracting hundreds of the country's best dairy cattle, NZ DairyEvent has come a long way.
For Selwyn Donald, who has been involved with the Committee since its formation, watching that journey unfold has been a privilege.

At its peak, the event has attracted more than 500 head of cattle, with an increasing number of exhibitors making the journey from the South Island.
But Selwyn is quick to point out that the show doesn't happen because of one person.

It takes a team.

Sponsors. Exhibitors. Volunteers. Committee members. Breeders. Handlers. Stewards. Judges. And all the people who turn up year after year to support the event.

Selwyn has been there from the very beginning, including eight years as Chairperson, and has ticked plenty of boxes along the way, successfully showing teams across multiple breeds, winning Championships, and even judging at the NZ DairyEvent 10-year anniversary show.

But perhaps his greatest achievement is simply being part of the journey.
"It's a privilege for me to have been on this Committee since its inception and to see the show grow to where it is today. I was lucky to lead the team for eight years as Chairperson and acknowledge that it is a team effort to make the show work each year."

And then there are the sponsors.

Gary Jones from Gorey, Co. Wexford, Ireland was born and raised on his familyโ€™s farm โ€“ Hallow Holsteins.

Gary is a member of judging panels in Ireland, Europe and USA and has judged many shows throughout Ireland, UK, Italy, USA, Canada, Australia, Spain, Belgium, Finland and Denmark.

Together with his wife Izzy and children Ted (8), Rory (6) and Ella (4), they now live on their own farm operating under the โ€˜Jonesโ€™ prefix where they strive to breed and merchandise Holsteins and Jerseys with elite, marketable pedigrees. Alongside this, Gary also works as Farm Manager for a 500-cow dairy herd.

The Jones prefix has owned, bought, sold and bred numerous National Champions throughout Europe.
