Stoked to finally place Te Ara Whakatika in it's home at Te Ara Poutama's new Probation building today. Representing the pathways upwards from earth (wood), the nine community sentences they manage on the sides, the kaitiaki at the top representing Iwi and the Crown as partners in Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Has been a long journey and an honour to create this. Mauri Ora!

stage 4 - smoothing, sanding,finishing
using a finer file, scrape the small rasp marks off again keep this even for a better look. (pic 1, 2 & 3)
once done use sandpaper to take out the finer grooves (pic 4)
when you are happy with your fish hook shape (pic 5) - wash down - this may show up any biys you have missed, you can still file/sand any blemishes out
Once done, complete your fish hook with rope or twine (pic 6)

Have a go, ask questions, send us pics and have fun

stage 3 - shaping
using the rough rasp, shape the fish hook towards the pencil lines, again keep the rasp level/even so it keeps the line to the back even. once the entire shape is even and how you want the basic shape, using the pruning saw (pic 3 & 4) cut the head of the hook at a slight angle
now using the rasp, again smooth off the head of the hook and start rounding off to soften the edges (pic 5 -7) when completed you should be at pic 8
once once, drill hole for your rope and using files make this hole a bit bigger, shape the edge of the hole with chisel - pic 9
