🎨✨Georgina May Young (Te Ūpokorehe, Whakatōhea, Irish) & Aroha Novak (Ngāi te Rangi, Ngāti Kahungunu)
Born in Ōpōtiki and now crafting her dreams in Ōtepoti, Georgina creates mesmerizing worlds one layer at a time. 🧵🌍 Using nature’s gifts, she weaves together threads of whakapapa, cosmic connections, and memories - both real and imagined.

Aroha is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Ōtepoti. Her work is often research and project based, drawing out indigenous and local histories that have been forgotten or suppressed. She frequently works outside of traditional gallery spaces collaborating with other artists, experts and communities to expand knowledge systems. Her art practice encompasses mural painting, installation, sculpture, photography, design, writing and curating.

Georgina and Aroha will be exhibiting work at the kicking off tonight - Wednesday 26th June 2024 at and the Dunedin Community Art Gallery and will be open to the public on Thursday 27th June 2024.

"Me he kōpiri whetū ki te rangi, ko tātou ki te whenua" "As the stars of Matariki are bound firmly together in the sky, so too are we on earth" Our winter whetū are timely reminders to draw together as whānau and community during this season, towards collective wellbeing. We're taking the opportunity that Pīata Mai has provided to bring last year's alumni and the current year's students to embody this vision. Mānawatia a Puanga Matariki!
