Award-winning Dunedin comedian It's Nicola Brown is performing her new solo show, Invisible to the Naked AI, at TAHI Ōtepoti Festival: Thu 15 and Fri 16 Oct at Te Whare o Rukutia.

It's about midlife, a body with strong opinions and refusing to disappear, when even automatic doors can't see you. It has stand-up, storytelling and a tiny choreographed dance party. Yes, a dance party. In a comedy show. Nobody will make you join in, but you'll want to.

Fresh from its world premiere in Christchurch, the reviews are in!

Laura Cooper (Backstage Christchurch) on Nicola's midlife comedy: "Midlife has plenty to answer for. Fortunately, she has the microphone."

And a Christchurch reviewer's list of Dunedin's hidden treasures – the Museum of Natural Mystery, Lan Yuan Chinese Garden, the Dead Souls Bookshop – now includes "my new favourite, comedian Nicola Brown." (Ruth Agnew, Flat City Field Notes)

Nicola would like it noted that she is now apparently a tourist attraction.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped us raise over $3,000 for Francisco Hernandez for Dunedin and the Green Party Dunedin. These things only happen because a ridiculous number of wonderful people pitch in:

Your last performer for Francisco's Funny Friends - Greens Fundraiser πŸ’š Kelly Hocking πŸ’š

Kelly Hocking is a Dunedin-based theatre maker, writer, performer and vocal coach, whose achievement goals are unsustainable. Originally from the USA, she has luckily spent over half her life in Aotearoa, where she has been a staple of the entertainment scene since arriving in 2005. Her solo comedy shows include Thief!, Rags to Witches, and 2026’s highly acclaimed Lady Luck. Although none of these shows has brought her fame or fortune, they have brought her a handful of colourful awards to decorate her refrigerator. Kelly is highly motivated by praise and was therefore thrilled to win the Otago Raw Comedy Quest in 2005. This success didn't translate into a larger audience, but it did contribute, once again, to her kitchen decor. When she’s not creating comedy, Kelly geeks out over voice science for singing and coaches vocalists who think she is an overenthusiastic nerd. But hey, they keep coming.

He also produces the 2 Wings to Fly political comedy show, which won Best Showcase at the 2024 Dunedin Comedy Awards.
