Now we have wrapped up our first Street Art Festival "EBB AND FLOW" we are taking a look back on all the murals created and fun times we had.

Next up : Bruce Mahalski 's piece on Glasgow St.

Bruce says

"The darker image is a local Pacific octopus. The larger lighter one is a transparent deep water octopus I really liked the look of. I just love cephalopods and painting tentacles"

Thank you to Bruce for the awesome cephalopods to Justin Sott for the wall and funding, to Accessman for the scissor lift support abd to Otago Community Trust for supporting the whole festival.

A big thanks also to Rachel Elder who did and epic amount work behind the scenes gaining permissions, linking up artists and building owners and to Hayden Raw for all his mahi on the resource consents process (and our stunning branding).

It takes a community!

Now we have wrapped up our first Street Art Festival "EBB AND FLOW" we are taking a look back on all the murals created and fun times we had.

Next up : Aroha Novak 's piece on the corner of Hillside Road and Glasgow St.

Aroha says

"Kaituna is the original name of the South Dunedin area where this mural is located. Kaituna was an estuary and mahika kai site - a place to gather resources (aka the supermarket) before the land was reclaimed and built upon.
In this mural are different species of kaimoana and ika that once inhabited the area such as pātiki, maka, pātutuki, tuaki, whētiko, p**i and he tuna nui - a big eel. This big tuna is a kaitiaki for South D and embeds the te reo māori name of this site back into the whenua and back into local language."

We were blown away by the response this mural got on facebook when we published her Otago Daily Times story. There's obviously vast support for this mahi, we think its a wonderful addition to the local cultural narrative.

Thank you to Aroha for such a special piece, to Cargill Enterprises for supplying the wall, to Bramwell Scaffolding for supporting with quality scaff , Keep Dunedin Beautiful and Otago Community Trust for funding this piece.

A big thanks also to Rachel Elder who did and epic amount work behind the scenes gaining permissions, linking up artists and building owners and to Hayden Raw for all his mahi on the resource consents process (and our stunning branding).

Now we have wrapped up our first Street Art Festival "EBB AND FLOW" we will take a look back on all the murals created and fun times we had.

First up : Guy Howard-Smith's piece for Stevenson and Williams Ltd , 64 Prince Albert Road.

Guy says
" This mural in St Kilda incorporates the local history of the shops and the connection to St Kilda beach at the end of the road. The idea was to share stories with the people passing by, remembering the area's history and celebrating its future!"

We've had a lovely response to this mural, people have enjoyed the historical theme and recalled memories of visiting the shops in years gone by.

We'd love to hear your memories in the comments below :)

Thank you to Guy for such a special piece, to Stevenson and Williams for funding and supporting this art work and to Dulux New Zealand for some of the paint. A big thanks also to Rachel Elder who did and epic amount work behind the scenes gaining permissions, linking up artists and building owners and to Hayden Raw for all his mahi on the resource consents process (and our stunning branding).
