✨RANGITĀNE TŪ MAI RĀ SETTLEMENT CELEBRATES 10 YEARS✨
Rangitāne Tū Mai Rā is celebrating ten years since it completed its historic Deed of Settlement with the Crown on 6 August 2016 at Mākirikiri Marae in Dannevirke.
“This is an important milestone for us” says Sonya Rīmene, Chair of Rangitāne Tū Mai Rā. “Our elders spent decades before the Waitangi Tribunal and negotiating with the Crown. We celebrate their achievements and reflect on our journey over the last ten years”.
“Our settlement was not perfect. We did not achieve all the things we aspired to in our negotiations with the Crown. However, it did mean that we could move from grievance mode to becoming masters of our own destiny” says Sonya Rīmene. “We have been able to grow our asset base, support our people and grow our connections and our presence in our community. There is much to celebrate”.
“Having reached this milestone, we can reflect on the ups and downs along the way and plan for our next decade of growth and development. We are committed to our whānau, we are committed to supporting the future of Wairarapa and Tamaki-nui-ā-Rua. We look forward with optimism”.
