Some days you come to karakia with an open heart, asking for the things you need, peace, direction, a sign that you’re on the right path. Other days, you come heavy, unsure of what to say, carrying the weight of everything you haven’t spoken aloud.
But the deepest work of karakia is not always in the asking. It’s in the remembering.
Remembering that the whenua beneath you has always held you.
Remembering that your tūpuna walk alongside you in ways you may not see, but can always feel.
Remembering that your mauri has survived storms before, and it knows the way home.
When life feels unsteady, when the ground seems to shift beneath you, when the noise of the world drowns out your own voice, karakia calls you back.
Back to your tūrangawaewae, where your feet can rest in certainty.
Back to your wairua, where the threads of connection are still intact.
Back to yourself, to the truth that you have always belonged here.
It’s easy to forget this when the days are long and the load is heavy. But you don’t have to stay in that place of disconnection. Karakia is your doorway back.
If you’ve been feeling untethered lately, comment Tihei, let’s make space for your return.
