🎨Alpha Street Pavilion transformed!

If you haven't already been past the Alpha Street Reserve in Cromwell lately, check out the Alpha Street Pavilion if you're out and about this weekend. It's been transformed by a large-scale street art project commissioned by the Central Otago District Arts Trust (CODAT), in partnership with Central Otago District Council’s Welcoming Communities.
We're all really proud of street artist Ling's work on this project, and the way it features the faces of our community and acknowledges the role that sport plays in bringing people together. A ceremony to officially unveil the mural is planned for June.

Despite the chilly temperatures Matt/ Ling has been working flat out on The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project. This morning, a group of Cromwell College pupils came along to listen to Matt chat about his work, partake in a Q&A session, and watch him in action. We discovered how Matt chose his artists name AND some of the students decided it would be great to get a mural at the Cromwell Skate Park too.....maybe another project to work on much later on?
Looks like Matt will be working on this for another 5 days before it is complete so do get along and watch him in action!

Part of the process of creating a mural design is the mapping out of colour and shape. The artist is doing this by laying graffiti on the building. Don't freak out! This is just the beginning of the artwork and will be painted over as the imagery evolves The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project

Big day yesterday welcoming our mural artist to Cromwell, taking photos and getting the final stages of the The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project design sorted! A huge thanks to the Junior Football Club and Senior Football Club reps for taking the time to have a chat.
Can't wait to see this project unfold over the coming weeks!

Gosh! It's been a long time between posts, so we thought we had better give you all an update!
Over the past couple of weeks, we have received some great feedback from the community, and have spoken with some amazing people who have all been full of ideas, enthusiasm for, and sage advice around The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project entire. The storyline has evolved and this whole creative process has played out something like the picture accompanying this post!
Matt/ Ling is putting together a draft of the work as we speak (which will not look anything like this scibble😅) and we will see him in Cromwell very very soon! Keep you posted!

A large part of our project brief is to talk about cultural diversity in our community, and the uniting force of sport, and in particular football. I went to a game on Saturday and got a few shots of players and spectators to further inform our mural design, whilst soaking up the magnificent weather Cromwell offered up over the weekend!
We are still looking for your ideas Cromwell people - not long until our artist arrives so get in touch - [email protected].

We have received more fantastic ideas over the last couple of days - keep sending them through to us by emailing [email protected] or messaging us on The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project. Here's one I love:)

"Hi there!! Alpha street is a place full of mums. Mums with their newborns walking around. Mums with their toddlers pushing the swing. Mums taking their kids to football. Mums feeding the ducks while entertaining the wee ones. Mums getting some sun in their faces with their Infants. And they are Kiwi mums, latinas mums, European mums, Asian mums... Maybe it will be cool to include this some how."
