A SUMMER OF SHORT, SHARP MUSICALS!
FYI, something really exciting we’re hoping to bring to Mercury Bay this summer.
As some of you may know, there are dozens of brilliant 10-minute musicals written by professional composers and writers. They are complete little shows that can be performed by young people aged 14 to 18.
We’re hoping to be successful in our next round of funding applications, which close in September. If successful, we’ll be able to purchase five wireless microphones and put together a summer program of outdoor performances.
The idea is a little bit like busking, but with musicals.
After the exam season, our senior students would commit to performing a series of short shows over busy market and event days throughout the summer holidays.
How would it work?
Week 1: Music rehearsals
Week 2: Acting, staging and putting the show together
Week 3: We start performing!
Short, sharp and exciting opportunities for our senior students to get more experience performing live, while bringing some fun, accessible theatre to the community.
One of the main reasons we’re so keen to make this happen is to create more performance opportunities for our older students, particularly those who are ready to take the next step and perform more independently.

This is still very much an FYI and fingers crossed situation, but if our funding applications are successful, we’d love to make this happen over summer.
More theatre, more opportunities and more chances for our young people to perform.
