The Court Youth Company THE COURT YOUTH COMPANY is a training and performance company for young actors.

It provides an opportunity to develop potential and nurture performance skills through practical experience. THE COURT YOUTH COMPANY is a training and performance company for young actors aged 16-21 years, and is based onsite at The Court Theatre, Christchurch. Members of YOUTH COMPANY will be encouraged to develop a professional practice in order to enhance personal growth and build required perf

ormance skills in:

• Voice
• Movement
• Script/text analysis
• Stagecraft
• Research
• Devising

The program for YOUTH COMPANY will drive towards the practical application of these skills by working towards two public performances:

• Classical text: a show based on working text and research from a classical script
• Community project: a site-specific performance devised off-site

As well as guiding the members through the craft of acting and theatre making, YOUTH COMPANY is interested in building the next generation of creative practitioners, from all cultural and social backgrounds, through nurturing skills in:

• Leadership
• Working in collaboration
• Strong communication
• Active listening and responsiveness

THE COURT YOUTH COMPANY offers an opportunity for young actors to train and be exposed to high-quality theatre making, and to develop a distinguished theatrical vocabulary and focus. It provides a platform for developing new work by a young practicing community, and has the potential to assist members in going on to work and train in other reputable New Zealand institutes. We at The Court Youth Company were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Rose Kirkup. Rose came onboard with the court in 2021 to work with and direct our production of Boys. Their incredible compassion and talent for working with young people and facilitating an environment of aroha and acceptance left a lasting impression on all of us who had the pleasure of working with them. We express our deepest condolences to their family and friends at this time. Rest in love rage queen💔🕊

We love seeing our youth company alumni working together after they finish with the programme. Director Ricky Townsend (YC 2019/2020) aquired funding to write and direct his short film, Wilbert Wire. Congratulations to Court Youth Company alumni Ricky Townsend for your movie's success at 2024 Miami international Scifi Film Festival!! Ricky along with several other former Youth Company members such as Isayah Snow, Selwyn Gamble, Haydon Dickie and many more have been doing the international film circuit with their film, The Bostrom Scenario and have had great responses so far!!

We love seeing our Alumni doing so well and still working together after the program!! We can't wait to see your continued success😄
