The Lake with No Name
Hidden deep in the Victoria Ranges east of Reefton, this tarn sits quietly beneath walls of hardened granite.
It’s easy to forget that scenes like this haven’t always looked the same. Over 20,000 years ago, towering glaciers carved into ancient rock, leaving behind deep basins that would later fill with pure water.
Only occasionally disturbed by the fault line running far beneath the surface.
Cirque basins like this aren’t uncommon in New Zealand’s ranges. But this one felt special. A place where time stands still, and you can’t help but stare.
Is it inviting you in for a swim?
