Our Darkroom Fundraiser Gig With Model Home, Guideless and Karleshia is coming up next Thursday evening!

We're stoked to have Guideless playing this one! They're a trio of Ōtautahi/Christchurch locals who play melodic indie rock laced with a touch of psych and a hint of surf.

We have so many fascinating regulars here at Darkroom who have really interesting jobs / studies / hobbies / special interests! We love hearing snippets about your lives when you come here for events, and we're thinking of having a dedicated night to hear more about what you get up to when you're not at gigs here!

We're thinking of having a kind of Mini Lecture / Ted Talk style night where folks can share a short presentation about their passions, so far we've got someone locked in who is doing their Masters research about the NZ praying mantis!

We've got Thurs July 16th penciled in. Please email us at [email protected] if you're available that date and keen to take part! Keen to hear from you whatever it is you do - you might want to tell us about your job as a beekeeper, about the guitar pedals you build, or anything else!

PC21 is open for public submissions!

As more housing is built in the Central City, close to established night-time spaces like music and hospitality venues, there are growing tensions over noise.

Plan Change 21 sets out to update the Central City noise rules, which were last reviewed in 2011 when no one was really too sure how or where exactly nightlife in our city would rebuild.

The proposed changes better reflect the established entertainment environment of our city 15 years post-quake, and are designed to look after businesses, venues, and new residents alike.

Please hop onto letstalk.ccc.govt.nz to show your support for the proposed changes, which will help protect the future of live music in our city!

Submissions are officially open to get public feedback on proposed changes to the Central City noise rules! We are stoked with the solution CCC have put out for public feedback! They listened to the points made in this speech and have updated the proposed category boundaries to ensure our venues will be covered by the plan change.

Now we need our community to make submissions in support of PC21. Make your submission here: https://letstalk.ccc.govt.nz/PC21

Plan Change 21 is officially open for consultation, and we would love you to submit showing your support for the proposed changes!

Even if you have previously submitted survey responses in the last couple of years on PC21, we also need our music community to submit this time round so we can hopefully get the proposed PC21 noise rules officially implemented!!

Your submission doesn't have to be lengthy and you don't have to be the best at spelling or formal writing to have your say.

Just make sure it's kindly worded (no swearing or anything - remember we're working with Council to find a solution that will work for both residents and venues alike), and make sure it's relevant by staying on topic, offering your feedback on the proposed changes to Central City noise rules!)

It would help us a lot if you can specifically mention venues and areas of town like ours that you enjoy performing or attending gigs at, and how the proposed changes would help protect these precious community spaces ❤️

Here's where to have your say!

Email us at [email protected] if you have any questions or need some help! Thanks everyone!!

We're proposing changes to the District Plan's rules about noise in the central city.
