The third photo from Astro workshop. Taken on the shore of lake pukaki. If you look closely you can see some strange satellite action in the right hand side of the photo - the satellites were all clustered their heading in different directions for a large part of the night.

I’ve always wondered how photographers get those amazing milk way panoramas, so I thought who best to show me than the best.
I’ve just been on a 4 day workshop with Tom Rae in the Mackenzie and it was everything I’d hoped for. We had clear skies, great company and Tom to guide us through the process.
This is the result of our second night.

What started off as an early morning walk to get some bagels for the family, has ended up being quite the photographic adventure.
I don’t enter many competitions but I thought this photo was something that needed to be shared. I love its power and simplicity and fortunately for me so did the judges.
Looking at the other top 20 images I don’t know how they picked mine to be the runner up, but I’m proud that they did.
I’d like to thank for running the competition and the sponsors and for the prizes.

I was happy that I was in the top 20 but to come second! Wow! I’m lost for words!
