Recent graduate Bella MacDonald, has created a small but perfectly formed collection of domestic ware, to showcase in the Student Union exhibition.

An artist of Fijian-Indian and Scottish descent, Bella's work questions what it means to be in communion with others and investigates ways to reinforce this.

Her ceramic practice aims to uplift domestic mundanity through vessels that not only offer practical function but also a sense of ceremony within the home.

Student Union artist and current student, Ana Krakosky, has created a body of work that represents her journey of whakapapa exploration, "navigated through a tactile interaction with materials, namely clay and silk".

"The process of creating is defined by a symbiotic relationship between disciplines, allowing the gestures of drawing and painting to inform ceramic pieces while the materiality of clay, in turn, dictates marks made on paper and fabric".

At the heart of this practice is cultural expression. "Through the deliberate process of creation, I instil whakapapa into each object. By forging these works with my own hands, I imbue a sense of identity and mauri into each piece".

It was a packed opening event for Student Union earlier this week. Thanks to those who came along to support these emerging artists and to celebrate their show.

The response so far has been incredible, with visitors remarking on the outstanding quality of the exhibition. Showcasing an impressive range of talent, the students' artworks are thoughtful, accomplished and well worth seeing in person.

Student Union. 7-31 October

Our October exhibition is a little bit special because it features work from current students and recent graduates of the University of Canterbury.

Six artists offer a snapshot of emerging practices from the art school community. Beautifully curated by another recent graduate and Gallery Assistant at Form, Marie Lawrence.

The opening is tomorrow, Wednesday 7th October from 5pm - 7pm. Please come along to show your support for these talented emerging artists.

Great to see more bronze work by Christchurch sculptor and Form artist, Tony O'Grady in this year's Sculpture Festival at The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora.
Only a couple of weeks to go until the opening!

A striking study in form, balance and contrast: 'No Escape' by Tony O'Grady.

Tony's works include figure studies and portraits, which investigate and celebrate the human form, emotion and spirituality, while also exploring mass, weight, balance, and the interplay of positive and negative space.
