The statue of Queen Victoria celebrates her reign from 1837-1901. It also commemorates Christchurch's 50th jubilee. The bronze panels around the base showcase the farming and educational strengths of the early European settlers of Canterbury. There are also two plaques memorialising the New Zealand soldiers who fought in the Second Boer War.

Christchurch’s iconic Spitfire is back ✈️

After an extensive refurbishment, our much-loved Spitfire has returned to Spitfire Square! Refreshed, restored, and ready to welcome travellers once again.

With more than 450 hours of craftsmanship, the restoration has brought new life to this special landmark, preserving its place in the hearts of Cantabrians and visitors alike.

Its return, just ahead of ANZAC Day, is a meaningful reminder of the history it represents and the connection it holds for so many.
