Set One: Here is the first set of Waiata that could be sung at Tangihanga. Depending how long you would like to sing and perform for.

The first set is some very nice songs that can be enjoyed by anyone and remembering the purpose of having these sets is just to have a framework and set of songs that you can sing whether at a tangi or special event.

Each level goes up a notch in terms of singing and performance but the first set is perfect for just sitting and singing 🙂

The words for all the songs will be released in the next couple of weeks as a resource that everyone can enjoy.

Here is the set

Kia ora tatou. This page has been created as a place where you can get the words and schedules for waiata as they are developed. There are 5 types of waiata resources that will be released. They are in summary as follows

1. Waiata for Tangi (30min,60,90)
2. Waiata for Waitaha combined (30,60,90)
3. Schools and Clubs curriculum
4 Combined 90 min concert
5. Too 20 Haka

A brief description - each of the resources have a purpose in mind for the waiata that are released depending on your interest.

There are lots of song books and waiata resources but the waiata project looks at practical and inspirational combinations for groups and individuals that can be learned by way of firstly getting the words and then either getting someone to teach you or coming along to one of the regular waiata practices that are organised once a month 🙂

Waiata Tangi - these are selected songs for those that go to Tangi as a group and that find it helpful to have a selection of songs ready to go. These have been organised in three sets. 30 minutes, 60 and 90 minutes. 30 min set is easy sit down singing, 60 min set is one that enables a standing performance and 90 minutes is the addition of a thirty minute competition style performance

Waiata for Waitaha - three sets of songs organised for those that would like to see three types of song/ performance styles. Same format of Tangi Waiata

Schools and club curriculum - this is a comprehensive e schedule for those that would like to make use of this resource as a tutor of Maori Performing Arts

Combined 90 minute show - for those that would like to be part of a 90 min entertaining show, this is a schedule of songs that brings this initiative to life

Top 20 - Top 20 Haka for those interested in this
Amazing art form

Come on down to a Project Waiata hui or wananga. Everyone welcome
