Big Sima and Boomtown are currently on the road taking their The Price of Peace EP around Aotearoa, and last weekend they kicked things off right here in Ōtautahi with something pretty special.

Taking over The Rolling Stone for an ALL AGES live show, the night gave our rangatahi the opportunity to experience the energy of a live band and a proper gig environment, and for some, it was their very first live show!

Some of our Christchurch Hip Hop Summit team were lucky enough to be there, and seeing the excitement, smiles and dance moves from our future generation was seriously wholesome.

A massive acknowledgement to Lucas and the entire team for making this happen and creating a space where our young people could experience live music in a safe and welcoming environment.

All ages gigs matter. They introduce the next generation to live music, artists, venues and culture and nights like this can spark a lifelong love for music. This one truly set the bar.

Big salute to Big Sima & Boomtown for recognizing the importance of bringing rangatahi along for the journey and showing what an all ages event can look and feel like.

A New Zealand Hip Hop classic: Scribe - My S**t

Released in 2007, “My S**t” saw our Christchurch legend Scribe step back into the spotlight following the huge success of his debut album The Crusader.

“My S**t” is pure MC confidence, Scribe reminding everyone exactly who he was, backing his flow, his style and his place in NZ Hip Hop.

After The Crusader produced massive records like “Stand Up,” “Not Many” and “Dreaming,” the pressure around Scribe’s next chapter was huge.

“My S**t” became the opening statement.

Produced by 10A, the track helped introduce Scribe’s long-awaited second album Rhyme Book.
Nearly 20 years later, it remains a snapshot of an important era when artists from Aotearoa weren’t simply participating in Hip Hop culture, they were creating records that dominated the mainstream.

Scribe proved there really weren’t many.
