It's olive harvesting season! Do you have any olives in Ōtautahi and want to be part of Riverlution olive co-op? 🫒

If you've got an olive tree (or a few) and want to be part of the co-op, please drop your olives at Riverlution Eco Hub (46A Vogel Street, Richmond) before 5pm this Sunday 14th June. You’ll get some oil in return and help us make the most of the short harvest window.

Our volunteers have been busy picking as many trees as they can around the community. If we haven't reached you yet - please can you try and pick your olives and drop them in. Ngā mihi (thank you) 🌿

Any questions, please email [email protected]

🚲 Happy World Paihikara (Bicycle) Day! 💚

Today (June 3rd) is officially recognised by the United Nations as World Bicycle Day but at Riverlution, we celebrate bikes every day.

Many of our kaimahi (staff) cycle to work, and we're proud to have come second place in our size category during Aotearoa Bike Month! 🎉

We're lucky to have the beautiful City to Sea pathway along the Avon-Ōtākaro River right on our doorstep, enjoyed by our team and so many people in our community.

Bikes are pretty amazing. They help reduce traffic congestion, lower carbon emissions, and support healthier, more connected communities.

Need a quick pump of your tyre or a spare bike part while you're passing by? We've got a bike pump and a few extra parts available (kindly supported by RAD), just ask one of our friendly staff members. 😊

How are you celebrating World Bicycle Day today? 🚲

Mother of All Clean-Ups - this Saturday! ♻️🍂💚

Kia ora, join us this Saturday for a clean up of the beautiful Ōtākaro/Avon River for the Annual Mother of All Clean Ups. Our community will be focusing on the stretch of the river from Swans Road Bridge to Gayhurst Bridge.

Every year several organisations and hundreds of volunteers collect and record the types of waste we find along the river. Common offenders include chip packets and plastic bottles but we also find larger items like shopping trolleys and old tyres .

Interested in joining us? We have everything you need ready to go: bags, buckets, gloves and more. Make sure you bring your superhero cape to dress up too!

We’re excited to share that Riverlution Eco Hub and Café are now powered by solar, with 20 panels installed earlier this year alongside Smart Solar. A huge thank you to Meridian Energy for supporting this project through the Meridian Decarbonisation Fund ☀️.

This investment is a big step forward for our kaupapa. Not only does it help reduce emissions and lower our energy costs, it allows us to reinvest back into the community and strengthens our resilience. With battery power, the Hub can continue to operate as a support space during civil emergencies.

An extra special ka pai to Eileen (our lovely intern) who supported this project.

♻️ New Drop-Off Spot Alert! ♻️
Boulder Co. Christchurch

Kia ora koutou,
We are delighted to officially open our recycling station to the Christchurch community!
This initiative is the result of a valued collaboration between Boulder Co. Christchurch and Riverlution, and we’re proud to be working alongside such a passionate group.
Our station will be collecting Tetra Pak cartons, plastic #2 lids (in a variety of colours), and plastic #5 items, as well as aluminium and steel caps. To ensure these materials can be properly processed, please make sure all items are cleaned and that Tetra paks are cut open and rinsed thoroughly to avoid
contamination. As well as putting each plastic in its appropriate labelled containers at the station.
All collected materials are processed through RCG’s Riverlution Precious Plastics project, helping to transform waste into new, useful products. Recycling stations like this play an important role in our community. By diverting
waste from landfill, we support a more sustainable future and contribute to Christchurch’s growing circular economy. We warmly encourage everyone to get involved - whether or not you visit Boulder Co., this is a resource for the whole community.

Open Weekdays 6 am to 10 pm
Weekends 9 am to 8 pm

📍Address: 179 Blenheim Road, Riccarton, Christchurch.
🏢Where is the station? At the rear of our building, located in the staff car park of the shopping complex.
❓Who do I talk to if I have questions? Talk to the staff at Boulder Co. to drop off your recyclables at the designated station.

Thank you for taking the time to prepare your materials correctly - your effort helps ensure they can be successfully recycled.

Tēnā koutou,

It’s been another month of wonderful mahi at Riverlution. We’ve installed a new shelter over the seating area — a warm, covered space you can book for events — and our weekly Crafternoon whānau have already been enjoying it. Come see it next time you’re in.

We’re grateful to be processing this year’s bumper crop of purple peaches, pears and apples into our real-fruit ice cream. This labour of love is made possible by generous volunteers and board members, and we’re honoured to share the kai with you all — long may the ice-cream weather continue!

We’re also experimenting with new menu options to bring more choice to your lunchtime visits. Plus, this season’s abundant garden harvest has inspired unique, small-batch teas, available only at Riverlution Café — ask our lovely team to learn more.

Stay tuned for more updates, we have movie nights coming soon .

Ngā mihi nui,

The Riverlution Café whānau 🌿
