Sunset Coast BMX Club has been a club in the BMX family for 30+ years. Located on Attewell Road in Puni we are open to all ages, abilities and disabilities. Our Facility is one of a kind with its two seperate tracks, An 8 metre ramp for our Elite riders and a 5 metre ramp for our youngest little racers. Many strong individuals within the club have been at the forefront of BMX in NZ, from National
or International Coach’s, officials, World officials and Sporting Commissars. These same experienced individuals now play a critical role in the club, future planning and day to day operations. We challenge ourselves to not only be a track that encourages kids to have fun while riding bikes, but also encourages sportsmanship, balance, motorskills, communication and bike safety. BMX is truly a family sport, our youngest riders are as young as two years old and alongside them is their family members in their 40s. We run club nights every Wednesday night where your children are welcome to come JOIN IN, GET ACTIVE, AND GET INVOLVED. HOW OUR TRACK CAME ABOUT -
In 2007 the club decided to take up a new piece of land in Puni, in May 2008 dirt was turned and in February 2010 the club was too host its first race meeting on its truly International venue. Easter 2010, Sunset Coast BMX Club successfully host it’s first NZ National Championship event, our first major meeting in 30 years. Following on from this event, our facility has been utilised by BMXNZ to host the Pacific Oceanic Championships and International Test Team training as well as a number of development based camps and coaching clinic’s. This track has two separate tracks, amateur and elite, both constructed within the one design. Unique slideable jumps seen for the first time at our facility and now seen overseas at International Events Centres around the globe. Recent track developments include both Amateur 5 metre high and Elite 8 metre high start ramps and gates taking our track and facility to a completely new level with the rider and continual improvement and development at the forefront. This track design and facility development was lead through our clubs initiative to excel at the sport of BMX. Our Track has state of the art drainage with tar sealed burms on four corners, complimented by public viewing from all points of the venue , creating a great spectator awareness of BMX racing at its best.
