WHAT YOU MISSED AT SOMSA’S AGM! 🗳️🕺🏻

In case you couldn’t make it to our AGM, we thought we’d give you an update on what happened. 🩷

⭐️ We voted in our 2025 Core Executive as follows:
President - Alanah Jones
Secretary - Cameron Price-Cunliffe
Treasurer - Tom Varney
Other committee roles will be available for application soon, and we’d love to have anyone who’s interested in working with the SOMSA committee for 2025. Keep an eye out for updates on when applications open and what roles are available. 🗒️

⭐️ We ratified our 2025 SOMSA Constitution
This will be sent out to SOMSA members via email if anyone is interested to have a read of the document.

⭐️ We affirmed SOMSA’s decision to re-register the club as an incorporated society
This just helps us to serve the student body better, which will always benefit you!

OPEN MIC NIGHT 🎙️✨
SOMSA presents an Open Mic Night at Shad’s, next Wednesday 25th September from 7pm to 9pm!

We want this to be a chance for our wonderfully talented musicians to perform in a casual, fun setting. Whether it be to air out repertoire, or sight read a piece with some friends, or simply have a jam (maybe even some karaoke), this is a chance to hear what your fellow students are doing with their music.ANY AND ALL INSTRUMENTS, DISCIPLINES, GENRES ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND! 🎷🎺🎻🥁🎤

Cheer on your mates, make some new ones, and enjoy a FREE DRINK from SOMSA if you RSVP using the Google Form before Sunday night 🗒️

Please note, you do not have to RSVP to come but it would really help us gauge how much food to order from Shad’s so do us a favour and let us know if you’re coming ay? 💖

It’s nearly mid semester break which means everyone’s under the gun! So to help you out, give you some incentive to attend these last lectures before break, and treat our wonderful music students:

SOMSA is putting out FREE SNACKS ALL WEEK in SoM, Fisher and KMC! Keep an eye out and get snacking, you deserve it everyone! 💖

The 2024 uni year has started and SOMSA is back, baby! We’re so excited to be welcoming students old and new to the School of Music 🫶🏻⭐️🎶

We’ve got a couple events this week to welcome everyone to campus, starting with our O WEEK STALL in the SOM foyer on Monday (today) from 12pm. Sign up for your 2024 membership (it’s free, come on!) and have a chat to our exec committee, who are all happy to help with any questions you may have 👩🏻‍💻✨

On Tuesday, we have a PIZZA PARTY for our members! Sign up for your FREE SOMSA membership and get your first batch of free food on us for the year 🍕 Have a socialise with your fellow music students and enjoy a treat for your first days back on campus.

We have a lot planned for the year as your student representatives and your voice at the School of Music - we hope you’re as excited as we are! 🕺🏻🪩

CALLING FOR 2024 SOMSA EXECUTIVES! 🎶🖤

Do you want to be a voice for the students of SOM? Coming up on the 5th October, we have our SOMSA AGM, where we’ll be voting in the following executive positions:

⭐️ President
⭐️ Vice President
⭐️ Secretary
⭐️ Treasurer

These positions will be chosen by nomination and a seconder at the AGM. No need to fill an application or anything, simply come along to our AGM! Either someone can nominate you, or you self-nominate. Please note your nomination MUST be seconded by another person.

At the AGM, information will be given on the other officer roles that will be on offer, which are as follows:

⭐️ Events Officers
⭐️ Equity Officers
⭐️ Outreach Officers

These positions will be open to application AFTER the AGM. Applications will be available via Instagram, but come look to the AGM if you’re interested to learn more about these roles.

To attend the AGM, be in the running for exec and to vote, you must be a SOMSA member! Signups are always open (linked in our bio!) and it’s FREE so don’t worry if you’re not already a member.

Come along to Rocky Nooks Bowls Club on the 15th of September for your chance to win some epic prizes and have an amazing time with your fellow student music community.
