(Seishun)

My calligraphy performance at Rangitoto College Japan Week 2026.

For this performance, the requested word was 「青春」 (Seishun).

There are still many things I would like to improve, and I hope to carry these lessons into my next performance. Every challenge reveals new opportunities for growth, and I am grateful for the experience.

My sincere thanks to the Japan Week Committee, the teachers, and everyone involved in organising the event, preparing the display boards, and supporting the performance.

⁡It was also a pleasure to perform alongside Haere Mai Taiko and Kendama Masters Lisa and Ray.

Thank you also to all the students who stopped to watch and share this moment with us!

【Rangitoto College Japan Week 2026】
Last week, I had the honour of performing Japanese calligraphy at Rangitoto College's Japan Week.

For this performance, the requested word was 「青春」 (Seishun).

(Seishun) is often seen as a symbol of youth. However, I believe its meaning goes far beyond a particular age.

To me, Seishun is about embracing challenges, pursuing what inspires you, learning from mistakes, and continuing to grow. In that sense, anyone can be living their own Seishun, regardless of age.

As I wrote each stroke, I reflected on the students watching and the exciting journeys that lie ahead of them. I hope they will have the courage to pursue what inspires them and create their own unique paths.

Thank you to everyone at Rangitoto College for the opportunity to share Japanese calligraphy and culture. It was a valuable experience and one that I will remember fondly.

May we all continue to create our own Seishun.

【Workshop at Shinbu Bugei Dojo AKL】
Shodō and Budō both share the spirit of “Dō” — discipline, focus, and lifelong learning. Thank you Shinbukan for this special opportunity.

【7th Kids Japanese Festival】
This year marks the 7th edition of this event, and my third year taking part in the live calligraphy demonstration.

Writing large characters on a vertical surface is always a challenge. Confronting gravity while maintaining balance and focus, I continue to learn from this experience each year.

On the day, there were many unexpected moments, and at times I wondered how things would unfold. Thanks to everyone’s support, I was able to stand there and complete this demonstration.

My sincere thanks go to the Consulate-General of Japan in Auckland, Auckland Council, and the Japan Foundation for giving me this opportunity once again. I would also like to express my gratitude to the volunteers who supported the preparation and operation of the event, as well as all the visitors. I am especially thankful to Haere Mai Taiko for making this year’s demonstration even more special, and to everyone who shared their photos and videos.

Once again, this event was made possible by the support of so many people. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

🎉 We’ve hit 20%🎉
😇A huge thank you to everyone who donated to our Boosted campaign. Your support means the world to us! We’ve just passed the 20% milestone, but we still need your help to reach our goal.
🫶Kumo Taiko is 100% volunteer-led, but a large-scale concert like TEN needs more support than we can cover from small gigs and membership fees. Every donation, big or small, gets us closer to bringing this 10-year celebration to the stage. If you haven’t yet, please chip in today.
