Often, the things that are most difficult in life are also the most rewarding. This sits at the heart of our knife-making class with Champion Knives.
Hayden, our incredible tutor, has dedicated 10 years to this craft. One of the most meaningful parts for him when teaching is witnessing the sense of achievement students feel after completing the process.
For those unfamiliar, the workshop can feel like a daunting and foreign place. Filled with sounds, smells and textures never experienced before, it's a world where the goal can seem so far out of reach that it hardly feels possible.
Making a knife isn't easy, and those who take it on, show a real sense of courage. Through the struggle comes reward, and somehow, the harder the journey, the more satisfying the outcome.
Kicking off at 9am, the groups are kept small, with a maximum of six participants, who each face a personal quest together. Through this solo yet shared experience, students form genuine bonds, and with Hayden's passion, guidance and encouragement, find the confidence to take the leap and face the challenge head on.
The knife that's held at the end of the class carries far more than a sharp edge. It holds so much meaning, and what gives it that meaning is the challenging process it took to make.
