Hobson Street Theatre Company

Hobson Street Theatre Company Hobson Street Theatre Company is a theatre company based at the Auckland City Mission. HSTC bring a raw energy to live performance rarely seen on stage.

The company has been together since 2010, presenting 7 shows in that time in venues including the Auckland City Mission Drop-in Centre and the Herald Theatre in the Aotea Centre. The shows are original, self-devised pieces that offer the unique voice of a sometimes marginalised section of society and allow an important discussion around homelessness in New Zealand to be had. Don’t miss their next show from a company renowned for their humour, spirit and depth.

Here's a great opportunity! Auditions for the show Teenage Dick at the Court Theatre close next week and the great news is you don't have to to have lots of acting experience to audition - just record yourself and send it in. It sounds like a great show, and just happens to be directed by pal of HSTC Pelenakeke Brown. See first comment below for link to casting information!

Showing some love for our friends at Siblings Theatre...

We're thrilled to see Siblings opening at Te Pou Theatre in Henderson next week on 24 July! We were so proud to support the development of this very special show - and now it's taking full flight in the creative hands of Pelenakeke Brown and Barnie Duncan...

“We’re here to explore the nuance of agency and care within the messy universe of Siblings from the perspective of disability.” – Pelenakeke Brown

Directed by Pelenakeke Brown and Barnie Duncan and created with the cast, SIBLINGS has evolved over three years of talanoa, play and deep connection. This genre-defying new work brings together four extraordinary Māori and Pacific artists in a show that is truly authentic.

This is theatre that resists tidy narratives – a constellation of sensation, memory, and care.

Don't miss out - shows happening 24 - 28 July. Please show your support - tickets on sale now! NZSL + audio description available. See link in comments.

Ngā mihi to everyone who came along to our season of Let Me Tell You About Auckland! Ka rawe to all the crew that made it possible: Joeli, Amanda, Rīhari Rua, Len, Nick, Roy, Tāne, Gemma, John, and Romy.

As always there's lots of people that help get the show on the road (or footpath, in this case), so lots and lots of thanks to:

- Anders, Amelia, Belinda, Richard T, and Wilf, who put so much mahi into our first attempts at it this a few years ago, which were continually scuppered by ol' pal COVID.

- Barbara, Eric, Chris, and Ata at Auckland Council's Development Office, who got behind our kaupapa and made this happen - this version very much would not have happened without them!

- Dmitry and all of the St. Matthew-in-the-City tīma for once again opening the most welcoming space in the central city to us.

- Kayleen at the Auckland City Mission for sorting space for us.

- Shadow for taking these beaut photos you are looking at right now!

- The Flock Board for quietly supporting in the background - and doing things like re-writing copy, approving payments, and all sorts of other less exciting tasks.
