Reserve your FREE tickets today for a very special celebration of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori!

Created and performed by award-winning poet Billy Reynolds McCarthy, I Was Born To Speak is a powerful celebration and reclamation of te reo Māori blending spoken word poetry, theatre, and kapa haka in a powerful celebration and reclamation of te reo Māori.

Through the stories and taonga of his whānau, Billy explores the intergenerational impact of language loss and champions the importance of speaking and preserving te reo. This event will also feature a screening of short film Mana Whakatipu, a ‘Kapa Haka Horror’ about an overachiever who must face her internal anxieties when a young rival pushes her to the brink of madness.
