“Scottish Fold // New Windsor”
Oil on panel
148mm x 210mm
2025
I’d driven past this building once before, and was immediately struck by the big triangular shape. It stuck in my mind as something that needed revisiting. I knew the angle and slope of the central building more or less perfectly matched the same angles seen in the 323. It seemed to work well here to echo the two shapes, one staggered in front of the other. Those hard, boxy lines seemed to disappear from cars altogether from the late 80’s onwards.
The sky tone helped with some simple contrasts (warm, brown tones in the car - brow essentially being dark orange - matched against the vast blue sky).
Long live the Scottish Fold, now under new ownership (in very safe hands) in the South Island.
Thankfully this painting has stayed within our household.
