🎭 Our final open stage night was a success 🎭

Last night we had an amazing turn out of performances from singing, acting to dancing!

We’re sad that this is our last open stage night of the year but we’re already looking forward to its return next year.

A big thank you to everyone who has participated in the open stage nights through out the year!

An even bigger thank you to Karen who is responsible for organising these lovely evenings! We appreciate all the work you’ve done 🙌

✨PLAYWRIGHT SPOTLIGHT✨
Who was Jean Anouilh? 1910-1987

🇫🇷 He was one of France's most celebrated 20th century playwrights. Born in Bordeaux in 1910, Anouilh wrote more than 40 plays during his career.

📚 He loved reimagining classic stories. His best-known work is Antigone, a modern retelling of the ancient Greek tragedy. It premiered in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1944 and has been interpreted as both a subtle act of resistance and a broader meditation on morality and power.

🎭He categorised his own plays. Rather than calling them simply comedies or dramas, he grouped them into imaginative categories such as Pièces roses ("pink plays"), Pièces noires ("black plays"), and Pièces grinçantes ("grating plays"), reflecting their tone.

His works balance comedy and tragedy. Many of his plays begin with light, witty dialogue before revealing darker emotional or moral themes.

Between 18-29 August 2026 we will stage Anouilh's play Dinner With The Family, showcasing his signature style of sharp, elegant and witty writing. Not one to miss!

✨ Leonardo Gunter returns to Titirangi Theatre for his second production this year, taking on the lead role of Georges in Dinner with the Family by Jean Anouilh. Audiences will remember him from our production of Seed where he played every male character - if you know, you know. 😉

Leonard is a graduate of Toi Whakaari New Zealand Drama School, His stage appearances include Women Beware Women and Romeo and Juliet. On screen, he has performed in the NZIFF short All at Sea, Smoke and Mirrors, and as a stunt performer in The Convert and Sweet Tooth.

Having grown up in Titirangi, Leonardo has loved the opportunity to return home and collaborate with this company to bring Dinner with the Family to life.

As Georges, Leonardo plays a man who appears to have everything, yet finds himself trapped between the life he has built and the life he wishes he were living. One seemingly harmless lie sets off a chain reaction of increasingly impossible situations, leaving Georges desperately trying to keep pace as the truth threatens to catch up with him.

We can't wait to see Leonardo lead this sparkling French comedy of love, deception and delightful chaos.

Keep your eye out for tickets 👀 on sale very soon! 🎟️
