Though her role may be simply credited as Woman, Michelle Smith proves there are no small parts in theatre. In A Man for All Seasons, she brings impact, presence and nuance to every moment she appears on stage, quietly stealing the scene, then also working in the wings to assist her cast mates and the back stage crew.

Michelle is no stranger to our Titirangi stage. Audiences may recognise her from recent productions of It's Never Too Late in which she played the lead role and Father Ted, while keen-eyed theatre lovers will spot her throughout our foyer archives in Arcadia, Much Ado About Nothing and Macbeth. Her lifelong passion for theatre began in childhood productions and led her to study Speech and Drama and English at university. Fittingly, it was theatre that also introduced her to her husband, Albie, who appears alongside her in this production as the Duke of Norfolk.

Angus Swainson returns to our stage as The Common Man in Robert Bolt's A Man for All Seasons. The Common Man is one the play's most distinctive and dynamic roles, part narrator, part commentator, part survivor, The Common Man wears many faces and deftly shifts between multiple characters and social positions, offering a ground-level perspective on the actions of England's most powerful figures. Through wit, observation and constant reinvention, he brings both levity and a poignant reminder of the consequences political decisions can have for ordinary people.

Angus graduated from John Goudge's Adult Drama Class in 2023 and is particularly excited to be working alongside him again in this production. Angus' previous productions at Titirangi Theatre include Romeo & Juliet and The Cripple of Inishmaan, and more recently he appeared in It's a Wonderful Life at Dolphin Theatre. Angus continues to develop his craft as a dedicated actor and student at Peter Feeney's Actors Lab Studio.

An influential churchman and trusted advisor to King Henry VIII, Archbishop Thomas Cranmer was a thoughtful and intelligent reformer whose loyalty to the Crown helped reshape England's religious landscape. In A Man For All Seasons, Cranmer embodies the difficult balance between personal conviction, political duty and survival in an increasingly dangerous court.

Martin Shepherd tackles the role of Cranmer in his first production with Titirangi Theatre. He’s had various roles on stage and back of house since school, and recent retirement has given him time to get back on the stage.

Martin is English and a student of Medieval history, he is fascinated by the Reformation, its vital part in England’s history, and its extraordinary characters. He likes Cranmer’s no-nonsense, pragmatic approach and his dedication to the Reformist movement.

Martin is thrilled to be part of this stellar cast and production team, and looks forward to seeing you in the audience this week, to bring you inside some of Tudor history's most dramatic events.
