Wove a little every day until I had a kākahu ✨
Te Tuatahi
The first korowai for the first born on her twenty first birthday
He Korowai Hihimā, He Korowai Whakaheke
My whole kōrari journey has been for this moment.
When you take being a step māmā seriously and you revive a craft within your whānau so she can have only the best.
I have new found appreciation for all the kaiwhatu out there. No one truely understands what it takes until you have put in the mahi yourself. The perseverance, patience, stubbornness, overwhelm, mind numbing and yet sometimes complete peacefulness.
My foundations in Te Whare Pora come from The Hetet School of Māori Arts.
My sounding board throughout the year and voice you hear
My calming safe space when my brain took over
Syd, Kaia and Skye Skye for being a huge part of the journey, harvesting, plaiting, and sharing space with myself and the endless amount of muka in the whare.
We all love you endlessly, unconditionally. May Te Korowai Te Tuatahi surround you with aroha and be there when your baby and their baby turns twenty one xx
