Hayz Rowe, founder of Alternative Fitness, started she career as a professional dancer. Gaining her performance training at the prestigious ‘Italia Conti Academy’ in London, she also acquired her Teacher Training with the ‘Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD) graduating in 2005. She successfully used these qualifications teaching in Gyms and Private Training Facilities all over the country
to both Adults and Children. Never liking the Gym herself as a fitness tool, she sought out other methods to keep herself in shape. Dancing, Roller Skating, Rock Climbing, Yoga, Trampolining and Martial Arts where among some of these.
“I got bored staring at the walls in a gym, or running on a treadmill, and not getting anywhere! I needed to be doing something fun, and challenging at the same time. Things that got me outside or even gave me a bit of an adrenaline buzz, to really feel like I’ve done something. Something that could make me laugh, and let me meet new people to laugh with.”
After travelling the world and settling in New Zealand in 2009 she decided that she would like to offer people a new way to exercise. Find a way to get people excited about exercise in a different form. She attended the ‘New Zealand Institute of Health and Fitness’ under the wonderful Jason and Amanda Phillips, to gain New Zealand Standard qualifications in Fitness and Personal Training on top of her Dance Training qualifications, and finally started ‘Alternative Fitness’ in 2013. Alternative Fitness Personal Training is aimed at people who don’t like, or have no time to attend exercise classes or a gym, or who need that extra push or motivation. A trainer will come to your house or an agreed local spot and create a perfect workout that meets your needs, goals and keeps you engaged. Alternative Fitness Dance is to get people moving. Everyone loves to dance, yet so many people will say “I can’t.” Well we say “Yes you can!” With Beginners Jazz and Limbering classes already set up, and Adult Ballet and Tap planned to hit the studios in April, you have an opportunity to prove it to yourself. The Mission of Alternative Fitness is to allow people who have a fear or aversion of exercise to find an area where they feel comfortable. To offer alternative methods of training that allows them to start working towards their goals, no matter what they are. To keep working out FUN! Our Vision is to be able to offer more alternative methods of training to a wider audience. The more methods we offer, the more options people have to find their perfect activity. Finally our Values, are to always find the right fit for an individual, with quality, safety, originality and passion for each at the forefront.
