What an awesome night of high octane, hilarious entertainment. A range of songs from various genres, some silly (and sometimes suggestive) ask fors and what amazing competitors! Everyone gave it their all and did so, so well. So, here’s the break down of award winners:

➡️ No photography or videography allowed during the show. Selfies, etc in intervals and before/after show is fine.

🌟 Doors open from 6.30pm. Show starts 7.30pm.

➡️ If you are a VIP package holder - don’t be alarmed. When you print your tickets, for some reason Eventfinda didn’t recognise that there is two tickets in the same package - so it may say ‘Admit 1’. Don’t fret - we know there’s two tickets per package and so does our door person, so you’ll still be let in as 2 people per package as intended.

Competitors get to choose their genre, but not the songs within. What will they pick? You’d best be there to find out.

"Back for its second year, Cassette Nine is hosting the Press Play Burlesque Improv Competition which will no doubt be full of laughs, drama, and the very unexpected. Eight contestants from around New Zealand choose a musical genre and are then given an ‘ask for’ from the audience, which is a suggestion as to how to perform or what to include in their routine. Then it’s all up to them—let the shimmying, shaking and improvising begin. The two highest scoring performers will then go head to head to take out the title of Press Play Champion 2019. If you are looking for something a little different for a night out this long weekend, this is sure to be a hilarious and light-hearted evening. Cassette Nine will have special cocktails and mouth-watering meals on hand as well to keep you happy."

Who will have the almighty task of judging who will become the next Press Play Champion 2019, you ask? We've got three of the best in the biz to judge who is worthy of the title for this year's Press Play Burlesque Improv Competition 2019 this coming Saturday at Cassette Nine. Introducing (L to R): Hannah Tasker-Poland : Artist, Mark Scott and Blue Virtue / The Bombay Bombshell! See more information about them below...

Hannah Tasker-Poland:
Hannah is a multi-faceted performer with over 12 years professional experience. Professional dancer, choreographer, actor, SPFX Body Paint/Creature performer, teacher, model and muse.

Working with the likes of The New Zealand Dance Company, Atamira Dance Company and Auckland Theatre Company, she has toured throughout NZ, Australia and Europe and performed to countless audiences over epic seasons on some of the grandest stages. Her first self produced, directed and choreographed full-length, solo dance-theatre work 'projectMUSE' will be debuting in Auckland later in 2019.

Hannah is well known in the burlesque/fetish realms for her physically brilliant, avant-garde and often dark performances, featuring regularly at events/festivals across New Zealand and abroad. Safe to say this lady knows a thing or two about live performance.

Mark Scott:
An actor/improviser/standup comedian with 20 years experience in each discipline, Mark has performed through North America, Europe and Australasia. He’s improvised as an Improv Bandit in three televised Comedy Festival galas, won Best Actor twice in the Auckland Short and Sweet play competition and tutors improvisors at Auckland’s Covert Theatre. Currently also a member of the Instant Broadway improvised musical and Bard’s Tale improvised “Shakespeare” troupes, the latter playing at Pop Up Globe in April and NZ Comedy Festival in May.

Blue Virtue:
Inspired by Fashion and the Seven Deadly Sins. Specializing in heels and precision hands. An award-winning boylesque and draglesque artist who performs between the lines of satire and art.

Blue Virtue is back to step down and judge as 2018' Improv King. Based in Wellington regularly performing at local Burlesque, Drag and Community events is where you may find him.

You are probably wondering who will be the ringmaster for all of the burlesque and improv chaos that is about to take place at Press Play Burlesque Improv Competition 2019? It's none other than professional comedian and improviser, Steven Lyons Comedy!

Absurd, connective, playful and silly, Steven endears audiences with his empathetic word play and curious views on life. He performs stand up and improv all across Auckland, warms up audiences for TV Three’s 'The Project', writes for '7 Days', is a member of The Improv Bandits and is a co-host of I’ll Be Back Catalogue (Nominated Nz Comedy Guid Best Podcast 2017 & 2018).

Last year saw Steven in the judging seat for Press Play. We're so excited to have him steer the ship for this years competition!
