Indian Ink Theatre Company is one of New Zealand’s most successful theatre companies with a reputation for “total theatre which offers humanity and psychological insight in a package of good plain laughs, luminous performances and brilliant staging” (Dominion Post, NZ). Together, they have created a series of remarkable theatre productions of intimate scale that remind their audiences of the simpl

e truths of life. Founded in 1997, the company combines to make work that is beautiful, funny, sad and true. The ‘serious laugh’ (using laughter to open the audience to deeper themes) is central to the company’s approach along with a love of mask and of story. The company blends western theatrical traditions with eastern flavours and has been critically acclaimed for its use of live music, heightened theatricality, humour, pathos and great storytelling. Indian Ink has won three Production of the Year awards, two Edinburgh Fringe First Awards, won Best Play, Best Composer and Best Actor at the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and broken box office records with tours throughout New Zealand, to Australia, Singapore and Edinburgh.

We asked the cast of Balloon Dog to share their favourite line from the show. The answers surprised us, delighted us, and revealed a little something about each of them.

Catch us in Auckland until 20 June and tell us which line steals your heart.
