Some New Canvas works up along side all the incredible member artists just in time for Christmas.

These two new paintings are a bit more rougher around the edges than my previous works on Paper. They explore how colour and line can be shuffled together to create a landscape or a liminal space.

There is also a musical quality found in each painting where each line/colour can equate to a note comprising a song or Ballad.

It was a privilege to be recently included in the Upstairs Gallery 45th year anniversary publication. I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the Gallery history over the years, and am grateful for all the opportunities and support I have received from the Gallery team and fellow artists.

The Matariki new year is a time to acknowledge the past give thanks for the present and herald the future.

The show has one more week to go, a great way to spend the day out at Piha.

A new painting from my 2023 show has recently found its new forever home with Deana Platt. This painting explores space and 'surreal architecture' created from a surface of painted brush strokes and washes. Thank you Deana! i hope you enjoy your new painting! 🎨 😀

I'm excited to have one of my larger paintings ' Interpreter' up . This one was painted during my final year at Unitec in 2014. It is inspired by the English Modernist Painter John Tunnard and his architectual projections of space. The focal point of this painting is the floating white object, known as a 'Spicule', which is a micro skeletal element of a sea sponge. It is juxtaposed with 'macro' celestial bodies and organic forms in a 3-dimensional plane to portray the dualistic nature of life and existence.

'At first glance, the monotones feel eerie, even triggering and yet the movement and contrast draw you in for a closer look. For many people who experience challenging realities, the Escher-like qualities of this painting can evoke difficult memories, like warped fever dreams, yet with a closer look, there is definite playfulness in the exploration of this image reminiscent of Dr Seuss or playing snakes of ladders. Like finding joy within challenging times it imagines that what feels impossible, may not be, and that healing is in the journey, not the destination.'
