First concert ☑️ 🌟 🎵

Thanks to all who came along to Torpedo Bay Navy Museum today for our debut concert!

We loved premiering a new arrangement and a brand new work by two New Zealand composers; ‘A Short Suite’ by Philip Norman and ‘Faire Une Pause’ by James Bevin.

It felt appropriate to have Mendelssohn’s ‘Hebrides Overture’ on the menu while looking out on a stormy Hauraki Gulf and Gershwin’s ‘An American in Paris’ lightened the mood on a gloomy Sunday afternoon.

We’ve got lots in store heading into 2024 and can’t wait to share more great reed quintet music with you all!

Music inspired by jazz of the 1920’s, impressions of a trip into an ominous sea cave and new original music composed here in New Zealand will fill the museum while you look out on the splendour of the Hauraki Gulf!

Using colourful sounds of some of the most characterful instruments of the orchestra, Ensemble Aaru concerts combine symphonic sounds with an up-close setting.
With just five instruments you’ll get your orchestra fix, jazz experience, and feel that sweet flow as we recreate well-known works, delve into different genres and create entirely new sounds. Our concerts are certainly eclectic!
