Hey everyone. This has been a tough decision for us here at the Auckland Blade Show, so we apologise for the disappointment.

The 2024 Blade Show has been cancelled. We will resume again in a future year, hopefully 2025.

The primary reason for this comes down to the economy. While we makers are passionate people who love what we do, it’s hard to justify the costs of a show in such a climate, and it’s also unfair to ask you all to part with your hard earned money. Our work is of the highest quality and will last you lifetimes, but we acknowledge it is still in the realm of luxury.

As a result, we will be postponing the show this year. Plans are in place to resume in 2025, should the situation be better then.

Thank you all for your support of our show and community, we have loved hosting you these past two years and we can’t wait to return in full force as soon as we can!

All the best,
The Auckland Blade Show Team

And finally in our run of awards, Tony of Southern Alps Trophy Hunting New Zealand Ltd took home a double whammy with this hunter!

Best Hunting Knife and Best in Show!

We had some incredible pieces at this year’s show. Complex, ornate, and beautiful, with rare materials, incredible workmanship and unbelievable talent. Tony’s seemingly humble hunter wowed us all though. It is a genuine masterclass in fusing form and function into a knife with ALL the performance and ALL the good looks.

With a superbly polished and hollow ground blade in 12c27 high carbon stainless steel, a Rusa stag handle and brass fittings, it possesses all that classic character you want from an heirloom hunting knife. Tony is an avid hunter and runs his own hunting tour business, so you can rest assured this knife is tailored to pristine performance. It also has all of Tony’s knifemaking skill poured into it, with an impeccable level of refinement throughout.

Much like ’s razor from last year, this was one that the judges homed in on. It’s not the wildest art piece with the rarest materials, but it was so superbly executed, and so clear in its vision, that it was a clear pick for Best In Show!

Congratulations to Tony for these awards, and to all our other award winners and exhibitors for bringing your very best to the tables! We can’t wait to see what you all create next year!

Thanks again for all who came along and supported our show and community, you’re all amazing!

Thanks to the amazing .and.ember and for the pictures!

Southern Alps Trophy Hunting New Zealand Ltd / .pidgeon.319 took home several awards at this years show! First up is Best Utility for this sweet fixed blade!

The beautifully polished blade is 12c27 high carbon stainless with a crisp hollow grind. The nickel silver bolsters flow seamlessly into it, matching cleanly to the Mallee burl handle.

This knife is incredibly well executed, with clean finishes all round and impeccable fit ups. It is also wonderfully ergonomic and user friendly, with a keen grind and beautiful proportions. Exactly the kind of knife that is dependable out in the field, and equally at home in a collection of heirlooms!

This knife, alongside others, is available from Tony now!

Thanks again to .and.ember and for the pics!

Pardon the fingerprint on the bolster, we must have missed that when prepping for pics 😅

Mack of MJ Knives smashed it at his very first show this year! A mind-blowing 14 years old, he demonstrated skills, patience and techniques that many of us strive years to achieve. His hard work paid off with this piece, which brought home the Best Damascus and Best Newcomer awards!

The blade is a composite work of art. Mack forged the damascus cladding and then forge welded that to a carbon steel core with a layer of copper on both sides. Forge welding copper stacks (often called CuMai) like this is a very tricky thing to do. Temperate control, even forging and a lot of care are all vital, especially since copper melts so close to the temperature needed to forge weld them together. This material challenge Mack undertook, combined with the clean, perfectly etched and finished ladder damascus cladding made this an easy piece to award Best Damascus, despite some very stiff competition!

Likewise Mack took the Best Newcomer award this year despite strong competition! We had 23 new exhibitors this year, who all brought their very best to the table. All the judges were incredibly impressed with the fresh talent, but Mack was - despite many close contenders - the standout this year. His work would easily pass for that made by a skilled maker triple his age and demonstrated a strong desire to perfect every aspect. Definitely follow him to see his growth!

This piece sold at the show, but Mack has several other pieces available, and open to commissions!

Thanks as always to .and.ember and for the amazing pictures!
