Ten years ago today, I decided to give something a go. Not because it was a lifelong dream. Not because I’d put a lot of planning or thought into it. I simply decided to give it a go.
I had just started working as an event manager, and saw events every day that I knew could be made spectacular by performing artists.
I felt I was missing out on opportunities as a performer simply because I wasn’t tall enough or small enough, I struggled to fit in with the “right” people, and felt like I was wired differently to everyone else - nothing to do with my work ethic or talent, which I thought should’ve been the thing that really mattered. I was tired of working in this industry for free or close to nothing. I saw other wildly talented people experiencing the same - I thought, what if I could change all of that?
I saw a gap in the market for the triple, quadruple and more threats. I knew I could create the hyper creative by combining talents of those I knew - actors who could hang from trapezes, dancers in incredible body paint designs…. I could change the game of event entertainment, entirely.
I also saw a gap for a company who understood the events industry. I heard many discussions that said the entertainment people were seeing at events was ok, but not at all appropriate for the event itself. Events didn’t need another arm, they needed something that elevated what was already there - flair.
This journey has been a whirlwind. The generosity of people who have helped me along the way was more than I ever could have imagined. I couldn’t believe how many people wanted to see me succeed.
While I won’t dwell on it, it has been one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. This project has broken my heart so many times, and my husband regularly hears my very serious musings about shutting the company.
But when I look at how the industry has shifted and changed since I started, and the opportunities I’ve created for myself and those around me, I can’t help but think it was all for good ❤️
And it’s been pretty good 🥰
