23/06/2025

Saturday night saw the curtain come down on the 2024/25 season with the annual ASSCC Prizegiving dinner. Was a very enjoyable night and as it turned out, quite successful for the Mod class as well.
1st = overall on season points - 11a Jamie Fox & 121a Newton Gordge
3rd overall on season points - 68a Cody Hata
Rookie of the Year - 86a Kaylee Brooks (who also earned herself the Minties Moment award)
Best Presented Car & Crew - 86a Kaylee Brooks
Club Competitor of the Year - 68a Cody Hata
Club Sportsman of the Year (this is the club's Supreme Award) - 11a Jamie Fox

This will be the last post on this page, keep your eyes peeled for the 25/26 page, which I will kick into life shortly.

In closing, on behalf of the guys and gals in the Mod class, I'd like to thank everyone behind the scenes at the club, from the Committee, to the track crew, gear checkers, scrutineers, lap scorers, race night officials, safety crew, flag marshalls, gate staff and even the guy out there after every meeting cleaning up all the mud in the pits, for doing your bit so we can get out there and do our thing every week.

Saturday night saw the end of the season for the Auckland Mods. Had we been running to the original season schedule it would have been the Auckland Champs that night but as we know that all changed some weeks ago.
The last run for most of the guys was almost a month ago with the Foxy farewell at Waikaraka Park and it ended up being rather fitting that his final race was there and he won it in comprehensive "Foxy" style. After that Daniel ventured down to Greymouth for the Gold Rush meeting and this weekend just gone Kaylee took the 86a machine to Blenheim for the North vs South challenge; she had a couple of hiccups including a broken driveline but most notably, won her first race in what we hope is a long and successful career.
And so ended quite a memorable season, two separate Auckland Champs meetings, a bunch of Foxy Farewell meetings with a mix of formats, another Dirt Cup, an NZ Champs that generated a lot of discussion and a bunch of weather that kept us on our toes more than once.
All eyes now turn to next season, the long-awaited renovations are underway and once the gates open and the cars roll out, I reckon we're going to see some pretty good Mod racing on a track that should really suit them.
Over the next few months I'll be putting pics of the works at the track on here so pop back in from time to time for a look.

Skies have cleared here in Greymouth but she's a bit wet underfoot.
11 mods have fronted including 5 drivers from the North Island, whoever wins the gold is going to have to work for it.
Racing was due to start at 12 but the track is going to need some work so it'll be a bit after that.

63a on their way for a "hit & run" raid on the Gold Rush event at Greymouth tomorrow.

Shows you just how good some of these photographers are. If you look behind the 63a car in the pic you'll see a whole lot of little glowing bits and pieces, these are the remains of the main inboard brake rotor as it self-desructed in the first heat on Saturday night.
Daniel finished that race and went on to complete the other two heats, the pole shuffle and the feature with basically no brakes and still managed to finish 4th in both the Champs and the Foxy Farewell.
Top effort by all involved.
