🎨 The creativity is officially underway!

Following our recent Artist Working Day, our artists are now hard at work bringing their concepts to life for the upcoming 2026–27 Sculpture in the Gardens exhibition at Auckland Botanic Gardens.

Today we’re excited to share a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Bill Devoy underway creating his special piece for the exhibition. It’s always inspiring to see the passion, craftsmanship, and creativity that goes into each work before it arrives in the Gardens this November. ✨

Stay tuned as we continue sharing sneak peeks from our artists’ studios over the coming months!

🌟 Meet our selected sculptors for Sculpture in the Gardens 2026/27 via a round of quick-fire questions we asked them at our artists working day in mid-April. Jeff Thomson and Bev Goodwin, who are working together on their piece, sadly could not be at the artist's working day.

You'll get to know them in much greater detail closer to November (the exhibition opens 14 November) but here they are now in all their glory!

👉 Head to our website to find out more about our curators for this special 10th Exhibition, and don't forget, Auckland Botanic Gardens is FREE and open every day but Christmas! The autumn colour is gorgeous now – and there is a permanent collection of amazing sculpture there all year round. 🌿 🍂

💥 Our artist’s working day in mid-April was a great mix of connection, discussion and hard mahi as we kicked off the 10th anniversary of Sculpture in the Gardens. 🌿

Artists travelled from across Aotearoa to Auckland Botanic Gardens, beginning with a cuppa and introductions before walking the stunning autumn gardens with our curators and the Gardens team to plan sculpture placements and technical requirements.

☀️ The day continued with lunch, quick-fire video interviews, photography, and chats with our fantastic engineers – finishing with a well-earned drink to unwind.

🙌🏼 A huge effort from the organising team, with so much achieved. Head to our freshly updated website to learn more about our artists and curators – there’s plenty more to come, so stay tuned!

A big and inspiring day for Sculpture in the Gardens

Today we hosted our Artist Working Day, bringing together all of our selected artists as they begin preparations for this year’s 10th exhibition. It was incredible to see ideas coming to life, connections being made, and creativity flowing across the gardens.

We’re so excited for what’s ahead and can’t wait to share this milestone exhibition with you all. Stay tuned as we count down to something truly special!
