The 18th Biennale of Contemporary Art has just opened in Lyon France featuring more than 120 artists including 10 artists from Aotearoa New Zealand.

One of them is 76-year-old John Miller of Karangahape Road who has photographed some of the most significant events in Aotearoa New Zealand in the past 60 years - an essential archive of land, sovereignty, and the environment.

Maungarongo Te Kawa’s He Koha Mō Taku Aroha opens tomorrow, Thursday 24 September. The exhibition brings together new and recent works exploring a wide range of ideas and pūrākau. Te Kawa notes:

‘I want my banners to trigger a spark of joyous understanding on the hīkoi towards peace, unity, and resilience—to turn protests into celebrations. … I lean into our pūrākau, our natural world, and symbols that say, ‘We belong.’ Aroha is at the centre of everything. I choose to be part of the flow of mauri energy and collective aroha. That is what truly wins the day.’

He Koha Mō Taku Aroha runs from 24 September to 24 October. Join us to celebrate with the artist from 6 to 8pm on Thursday 24 September.
