There’s an aspect of Karaka Pavilion that isn’t talked about very often, but it’s one of the things that makes this venue genuinely different.

We don’t just host people. We host horses too. 🐎

Karaka is one of those rare places where major human events and a working equine environment exist side by side. Throughout the year, significant numbers of horses move through the facility alongside the conferences, dinners, expos, celebrations and corporate events that now form such an important part of what we do.

Balancing those two worlds requires a different level of care. The standards we maintain, the way our spaces are managed and the attention given to the environment have to work equally well for our human guests and the animals entrusted to the facility.

And perhaps one of the nicest things to see is just how settled the horses can be here, even with people and activity around them. For us, that calm environment is something we take enormous pride in.

There are plenty of event venues in Auckland. There aren’t many that can do what Karaka does.

There’s a lot of ground to maintain at Karaka Pavilion, but it’s often the smaller details around the estate that we’re most proud of. 🌿🌸

Our grounds are kept to an exceptionally high standard throughout the year, and that same care carries right through to the Pavilion itself. The hanging baskets overflowing with flowers, established planting, manicured gardens and all those finishing touches around the buildings are an integral part of what makes Karaka Pavilion feel like Karaka Pavilion.

When you’re welcoming hundreds of guests for a conference, gala or major event, presentation matters well beyond the room they’ll eventually walk into. It starts outside, on the approach, through the grounds and in the details they notice along the way.

This is why we love a good before and after.

Early morning in the Karaka Pavilion stables this week and, in the middle of an Auckland winter, things were looking suitably grey outside. A few hours, some clever lighting, beautiful tables, warm details and a little imagination later, and you’d hardly know it was the same place. ✨

The stables have always had character, but dressed for an event they become something quite special. Long tables running through the stable aisle, lights overhead, individual stalls forming the backdrop and all that equine history still very much part of the room.

It’s a wonderfully whimsical setting for private dinners and long lunches at any time of year, but with summer and the end-of-year events season approaching, this space really comes into its own.

If you’re looking for something a little less conventional for your Christmas function, team celebration or end-of-year lunch, it’s worth getting in early. Our stables are one of the most unique spaces on the estate and summer dates are always popular.
