Pipe-cleaner orchid

I've been keen to try making one of these for a while now. Not too shabby for a first attempt.
I had to use yarn to wrap the wire as I didn't have any wrapping tape.
If anyone knows what that tape is used to wrap the stems and where to get it, please let me know!

Such a lovely day at The Ararimu Market! Of course the giant emotional support pickle got some attention from the Pickle Rick fans 🥒

There was fantastic variety of food, art & crafts made by some incredibly talented people.

Such a beautiful location, and a really lovely relaxed atmosphere which was perfect for my first full market experience.
Thank you so much Mum, Tony Haresnape and Scott Milbank for all your help. It was a really enjoyable day!

Thank you so much to the wonderful people who purchased my art work. It is a wonderful feeling to have someone appreaciate your creations enough to want to take them home - thank you 🥰

Crochet CRT (retro TV)

I'm curious to know, what would you expect to pay for a hand-crafted piece like this?

It took and estimated 12-14hrs.
It was not made following a pattern - I made it up as I went, so it is one-of-a-kind.

I totally understand that this particular piece won't appeal to everyone, I'm just curious to know what people think is fair or would be willing to pay an artist per hour for their work

Would this hourly rate apply to crochet specifically, or any artwork?
There's no right or wrong answer, art is very personal and we all value things differently.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts 😊

"No. is a complete sentence." (Acrylic paint and oil pastel)

Saying no does not make you a bad person.
Saying no is necessary for honest navigation in daily life. No is neither good nor bad, it is a neutral description of preference or a simple statement of fact.
Use "No" lightly and firmly.
Let no speak in solitude.
Emotional weight implies conflict. A weightless no is a simple message, demanding nothing except that it is heard.

No is not negative. No has no meaning without context. With context it's job is to strip away confusion and ambiguity. No is a champion of clarity.

Personal boundaries and preferences are a healthy necessity for being authentic in relationships and respectful of self and others.

No is a beautifully simple means of comminication. No will save us much time, turmoil and frustration once we learn to use it effectively and respectfully.

For just two letters, this powerful little word requires a huge amount of conscious effort to practice applying successfully, especially for those who associate the word with deep personal shame and failure.

Re-write your relationship with 'No' - retrain yourself to use this little word courageously as a tool of love, respect and authenticity.

Here's what I had to say after reading so many comments from crafters and artists feeling it is impossible to charge for our real time and skills that go into our work...

"It requires a mindshift, a collective effort to value our own time, skills and creativity.
If we keep lowering the bar and our prices so that we cant possibly survive, we are devaluing ourselves and the craft.
We train people how to treat us. If we don't ask for more, we will not get it.
This isn't about greed, its about self respect and self worth and applies to every aspect of our life, not just our crafts.
Our time, energy and creativity is valuable. If we want others to recognise it, we must first recognise this for ourselves.
This comes from someone who still very much struggles with the concept and still gives their artwork and crafts away instead of selling them. But I'm trying, one courageous step at a time to not feel shame or embarassment for setting a price for my work.
While at this stage I'd still be lucky to get $1/hr for my time, I believe that by presenting customers with a range of crafts for purchase (some quick and cheaper, some slow and more pricey), they may have a better understanding of the work involved, and can still choose something that fits their budget.
We have to recognise ourselves as crafters and artists, and our work as handmade with care, thought and unique qualities that make them unmatched and incomparable to factory items.
We have to realise that these are works of art, and once we acknowledge the value of our own work, we will attract customers who also value the special handcrafted items we offer, customers who will gladly purchase and love these pieces not just because of their function, but because of the dedicated passion woven into it.

Heres another example. An old car I saw for sale on Pawn Stars that would be valued at $10k, haf an asking price of $900k. Why? Because it was in the movie Rain Man.
The value is not the car, its what the car means, its the story of the car that gives it value.

This is how we need to start recognising the value of our own crafts. Every single piece we make was given our undivided attention at some point. It has a story. It has love and energy and care invested in it. Once we see the value of the story, how our crafts came to be, others will too." 🥰
